Welder cart design

I didn't build one, but I use a stainless steel topped rolling cart for a commercial kitchen. It has two big plastic drawers that slide out (was for dishes I guess). I need to find a better way to hold the tank, but it works pretty well and putting the clamp to it anywhere gives me a good ground for my project.

I like the recycling idea and the drawers Dave. I was thinking of a top shelf for the welder and lower shelves or drawers for misc stuff and a bottom shelf for the future plasma cutter. The tank will ride on the back like most other designs.

no close ups but you get the idea. pirate4x4 approved also

The cart I've got is big enough for the plasma and mig side to size or back to back on the bottom, with one of the under the table drawers still in for welding stuff and hooks on the sides for leads. I put a 3/4 plywood board on the bottom that sticks out far enough for the tank to sit on, then the tank is strapped. The weight of the mig holds the plywood in place, but I do plan to screw it down. I'll get some pics for ya.

No pictures, too lazy and too tired, but let describe mine.
I took a el-cheapo hand truck, the kind that the handles pull out and make a cart. I welded some unistrut on it and made a shelf. (it's actually a fiberglass Quincy tray) and bolted two big coffee cans in front of the tray. The bottom holds my welder, to keep the weight low. The tank sits on the main axle and has two ratchet straps to hold tank in place.
I took some pneumatic tires and put them on the main axle soo I could move it around. Handles on it to push it kinda like a wheel barrow.

I had a bunch of scrap metal laying around, so I drew up a plan in Google Sketchup with what I had available in mind.
Here is the plan I drew up:

Here is the finished cart:

Not pictured is the tank, which straps on the back above the axle. Because I had most of the materials around I spent under $20 (wheels, strap, paint) on the project.

Mine is a 2 wheeler. It is an old vacuum cleaner cart, has about 16" wheels. The handles come up about torso height like a handtruck. I spent some time working with the balance so that it is balanced when Im rolling it, but sitting pretty solid when its on the ground. I used 2 Dana 60 leaf spring perches for the front feet, and some old 3/8" thick bracketry from a warn winch mount. A piece of 5/16" 4x4 angle goes up about 4 feet for a work/storage area, and I have 2 baskets welded on. Tank is on the left, welder is on the right, about 1.5 feet from the ground, spools under the tank. It is a bit of a frankenstein creation, but it works great and is very maneuverable both on and offroad.

seeing two others with the same lincoln as mine sure does make me feel good about my choice in welders :)

carts look great guys.... mine is more like Mr. DIY's with the exception of having my lil 40 CF unimix tank duck taped to the arm and one of the legs most of the time....

-Erik <--- should suggest ratchet straps for such mounting... it fell once and caused both gauges to break. DOH!

Had a friend use a shopping cart and he dropped the basket onto the flat bottom part and welded it together and it works well?

mine... started off life as my first tool box a late 80s craftsman..I added the tank support and cut a few holes. The lower door locking strap, was reused as the tank holder. Been working well for 3-4 years now.. I have since moved the plasma to a shelf on the garage wall..
