so friend gave me a dayton 3z744 100 amp 115 volt arc welder, or stick welding. so price is good, will this thing do anything here at my house. can have it on a 30 amp breaker. need to weld up some stuff at work, repair some dumpsters, so need to weld 1/8 to 1/4 inch angle. suggestions, some help. thanks in advance.

get some 3/32 6010 or 6011 rods and you'll be good. If the welds are on dirty/rusty metal, run the 6011.

a TIG rig works well on those small 110V stick welders for 1/4" thick metal and thinner.

I second the 6011 rods. If it is a ac welder make sure you use 6011ac rods. A AC welder will only burn certian rods good, but if it is a DC welder then you can run about any rod you want. Also on thin metal a good rod to use would be a 7014.

I have an old 220 amp Dayton AC buzz box.

It has a switchboard style amperage control. You have to choose from 9 different plugs on the front panel, & there is a chart to find out which combo gives the heat you want. A true dinosaur, but still welds just fine. I did shrink the huge case it came with, the actual machine inside was much smaller.
