I have a small Lincoln that welds flux or mig. It was working good on flux and I ran out of wire so I switched to mig. Now its poping and wont weld for crap. The flux wire was .30 the mig is .25 I changed ends, cleaned the gun, adjustde the wire tension, speed and heat range. With the flux I was running the heat half way up would burn thru if I slowed down to much with the mig I can run it wide open and not burn thru. I'm welding sheet metal patchs. I got the small gas bottle because I dont weld much with the wire welder but the dang thing ran out of gas before I could get a good bead. I have played with it for about 2 hours adjusting and trying to weld. The gas should last longer than that shouldnt it ? The 10lbs spool of flux wire has lasted me about 5 years. HELP

Yes it should I have a 20 cf tank and run 5 lbs of wire and still have gas.
What are you running the tank at and is it shuting off.
With the power off and a new tank get some soap water and check for leaks.
Was the tank full could they have given you a bad tank?
You did open the valve all the way correct. It myst have a leak someplace to run out like that. It should only run out when you weld maybe it is not shutting off .
Good luck and let us know.

I will revese the polarity today and try that.

I opened the valve all the way,but my regulator does not have a gauge. Its got pipe plugs where the gauge would be so I have no idea about pressure. The gas is shuting off with the gun. I may have gotten a half empty tank. I dont know. I'm taking it back today and getting another one. Thanks for the help guy. I'll let you know how it turns out.

You need a Regulator to make it work and it should have a guage on it.You will have a lot of problems and use up all the gas quice with out it. When you get your tank let them look at your setup the regulator you have may not be the correct one.

I took the tank back and they swaped it out for free. It seems the new part time help had been swaping tanks out and not pulling the full stickers off the returns. Revesed the polarity and now it welds like it should. The way I have it now the gun is + and the clamp is - will it weld flux wire like this or do I need to reverse if go back to flux wire ? I still need to get gauges for the regulator but at lest I can weld now. Thanks for the help.

Yo,
My Lincoln 140 manual indicates you have to change polarity between flux wire and MIG.

Whew....man is it hot   the fix....Ahhhhhhh
