I know welding your rear makes road driving tough, but was wondering if I welded the front and got a locker in the back would the front have any on road problems simalar to the back?

Ben

I would think as long as you have lock out hubs you should be able to unlock them and drive on the street just fine. Just make sure its a good weld so it doesn't explode while going down the highway.

Exactly. If you don't have hubs in the front, you will have excessive tire wear and a hard time steering, and you will want to avoid parking lots. If you have hubs, you won't know its there until the hubs are locked.

As long as you can unlock the hubs it won't affect road driving, but I would never run a welded front just because of the ill effects on the trail(hard to turn, extra stress on axles, ect). If you're really concerned with road handling go with an ARB or the like(selectable locker) I'd run detroits front and rear.

in your case id just save up for some aussie lockers. dont weld the front their is just to many drawbacks to it. you can weld the rear and it isnt as bad as u may think if i remember you are running 35's and i have noticed that long wheel base vehicles with large tires are better mannerd with a welded rear. im sure adam will give u a spin around the block in his fsj to see how his welded rear drives it doesent really even scrub the tires unless its a very sharp parking lot or driveway turn. im assuming the vid i sent u has inspired this

You will have to fight your steering like hell unless you have really good ps or hydro assist. My front is welded but I have ton's with chromos and don't really drive it on the road

i had my MJ spooled in the front with hubs and it was like driving without power steering on the trail. some people say you can just unlock one side and drive like that but when you do that you have to fight it the whole time as well. if it was me....i would lock it in the front and weld it in the rear.

X2

Thanks

Thanks so much, yeah Chris ive been looking around. I guess the best bet would be to get a locker in the rear for now and see how that goes.

Thanks for all the answers

if you run hydro assist you really wont have any problems with a spooled/welded front. however, it will suck if the trails are really sloppy because the truck will have a tendancy to plow straight ahead and not turn

as well as that big tank does anyway it will be night and day with a rear locker. most people on here has wheeled years before getting a front locker.

If you decide to weld the front, make sure you phase the shafts (line up the u-joints) on the front when you put it back together. That will make your axle a lot happier when you are turning.

what is the difference in lining em up and not? does it really make that big of a difference? bout to weld up the front on my fullsize jimmy
