So found out for the first time ever I'm getting poopcanned on friday for no fault of my own. They have let go of over 30 people in the last month and seems after almost 3 years Im going next. Does anyone have info on nc unemployment as far as filing, companies being able to deny it?, etc. Single father here pooping a massive brick

go to the unemployment security website and follow the links to apply online. You dont have to go to the office. It can all be done online.
The company you are leaving has to approve it and if they do then it takes a couple of weeks to start drawing. If the company says no then there is not alot you can do except file an appeal and good luck with that. If its a layoff then they will approve it.
Dont feel bad alot of good people are in your shoes including me. I was laid off because of no fault of mine.

ncesc.com will have all the info you'll need. You'll be able to get an estimate of your weekly benefit amount and you'll be able to file the claim online. If your laid off or terminated for "no fault of your own," you shouldn't have to worry about the company denying the claim. As mentioned above, it will take a few weeks for you to get a check, even after your waiting week (from my understanding, the ESC is overwhelmed with claims & a little behind in processing). My brother-in-law was laid off last month & it took over 3 weeks for him to receive his first payment & they issued him a debit card rather than a check.

Was doing heavy industrial/commercial electrical design work for them for 2 years and been estimating large electrical jobs for a few years. Looks like I might be heading back to field work.

Yea I've been told in the past they deny all unemployment :poop: . They actually have the balls to ask people to sign a form saying they didn't mean their standards while they are shoving you out the door.

Oh yeah, sorry i forgot that part. You can get a debit card or have it direct in the account. You have to renew every week. Do it Monday online and get it by Wednesday

Just thrilled about the bs behind it. 5 people quit last week after 2 were fired and our regional vp sat in my office and told me my job was safe. He knows I just got full custody of my kids and am going through a seperation. Then again they fired a pregnant admin today so I guess heart is running alil low there.

1. Cary ESC office is the best in the area, and you can go to any one in Wake Co.
2. Don't sign something saying your performance was bad.
3. Start looking now and talk to the ESC.
4. Start talking with the NCDOL.

-- Hoping you find something better soon.

Been there, done that. I was laid off from my first job out of college a month after 9-11.
You said you have electrical design experience, I know the nuclear industry is hiring. Look at utilities like Progress Energy, Duke Energy (if you want to relocate). There are also job shops and engineering firms out the wazoo that are looking to fill jobs in the nuclear industry because utilities like to use contractors instead of direct hires. Good luck!

The company doesn't have to approve you getting unemployment. If your story about why you where let go differs from what the company says, it goes to arbitration. There's an NC law that says something like if you where let go for a reason that NC doesn't deem was worthwhile enough you can still get unemplyment.

I know how it goes lad, I just got laid off 3 weeks ago from my job and i'm still hunting for one. I saw on CNN yesterday that the unemployment just went through the roof for October. Something like 500,000 people were let off just in the month alone, and thats just from the job fields they listed, so there was bound to be more...
Its starting to look like I might have to sell my jeep and move back to Tennessee...
