So, my first camping trip with my son who is a Cub Scout. Having been a scout all growing up I knew what kind of fun being in scouts could be. He is 6 y/o and was very excited about getting to go on his first ever camping trip. We went to White Oak, NC to Camp McNeil, a campsite designed specifically for cub scouts. We were there Friday thru today. Ok, I will let the pictures do the talking:
The "official" (as my son called it) first camping trip tent:

The equipment trailer I towed down for the camporee, thing was outfitted out with about any and everything you could need, including lights off a marine batter to find things at night:

Having fun at the "Gold Mine", the brown building was a ladder going underground into the network of tunnels underground, this was one of the exits:

I really enjoyed this trip. Bryson I am pretty sure is hooked now, he had a blast. Him getting to roast marshmallows and make smores made his night last night, lol.

Great looking camp and some good pics! Those were fun times with my son who is now 25 and still loves the camping/hiking thing he first experienced in scouts! You're a good Dad to be involved in Bryson's adventures!

Awesome! Eagle Scout here. Keep him in it if you can.

i think that is really cool too
i started in scouts with my dad as a leader at that same age, grew up to be an eagle scout, and now an assistant scoutmaster

honestly that is one of the things that i cant wait for if i have a son, teaching him to like the outdoors as much as i do

I love camping. My parents started taking me camping before I was even out of the crib, so Scouts was a natural. Got my Eagle back in 2000, and am now an Assistant Scoutmaster.

yeah, I hope to be able to keep him in it as long as I was in it. I made it to a Life scout. My father was my scoutmaster as well. Unfortunately when I submitted my eagle scout project it got rejected (to this day I am convinced it was due to the fact that the head of the Tuscorora Council and my father had a disagreement about use of funds for renovations at Camp Tuscorora back in the early 90's) and I got bummed out about it and never resubmitted. I really regret it now and hope I can help my son stay in scouts and learn the rewards/benefits that scouts has to offer.

I was in The Boy Scouts from the time I was 11 till I was 18. I made it to Life Scout, once I turned 16, I got lazy and went to work and women and so on. Congrats to all the Eagles here!

Boy Scouts is something that will give him life long values and lessons.

You will never, ever regret time spent with him

Another Eagle Scout here - troop 448 in Salisbury...
my dad also was an Asst Scoutmaster...

i am with 442 in Salisbury, but it seems we have a lot to do with 448, scouts(and leaders, including me) from both troops went together as a contingency to philmont this summer

That's funny - I do remember several rivalries from back in the day - competing for blue ribbons at summer camp, camporees, all that good stuff.
Good to see the friendly competition is still going on.
:)

My son was the baby in the tiger costume with the florence chapter

Ditto... "fumes" (exhaust fumes & perfumes) got me too :(

Just a friendly tip from a long time camper, Scout, & Marine... next trip, do NOT pitch your tent next to a LIGHTNING ROD!
