what axles would come factory in a 78 f250 4x4? would they be 6 or 8 lug? a guy came into the shop today and said his dad was selling their old farm truck for cheap. he claims that it has d60s front and rear. any thoughts?

8 lug 3/4 ton D44 front and D60 rear.

I find a lot of guys throw the 1-ton term around well more than is true...anything more than 1/2 ton is 1 ton to some folks I guess

Some crew cab 70's 250's got closed knuckle lp 60's. Later 70's "snowfighter" package 250's got hp kingpin 60s. Probably not too common around here.

that is a good 44 up frount it's high pinion or reverse rotation witch ever you choose to call it should be worth 300 bucks tops the rear is a 31 spline dana 60 also top of the heap as far as 60's go worth 100 bucks.

I sell 44 fronts for $400 and they go quick. If it has 4.10 gears you can get $450 or more. The rear is 30 spline and sells for $150 to $200 depending on gears.

they might be little more plentleful out here in tx cause 44 frount goes for about 150 to 250 and i have a rear 6o out of a 78 f-250 complete in perfect shape i can't even sell for 100 bucks hell i only give 200 dollars for a frount and rear 44 for my yj.i'm moving back to n.c. next month,i should bring a few with me.

short and simple
'78 and '79 f 250
front -8 lug 44 and (snow fighter) 60 all were high pinion
