What do you have in the back of your TJ?

Im ditching the rear seat today or tomorrow (if I can get the damn thing out, stupid Beach Jeep)

Anyways, Im trying to get some ideas on what to do with all the new space. I think I want to rig up some sort of removable tool case, like a lockable Craftsman chest, but thats in the future, probably around the summer.

Any other ideas?

First off I want to congradulate you on the App avitar, that my school! I have a 2000 TJ and am looking to do some trunk ideas as well. My plan is to get some jumper seats, probably out of an FJ Cruiser and have them facing eachother, then i will mount my subs in the corners of the wheel wells. I have Tuffy lock boxes in the rear so i am good with lockable storage.

For you, it all depends on what you want/need. Air compressor is always key, they have slidable locking drawers that will install under your seat as well. You can always "bling" it out and put a system back there to have some off road bump. Let me know what you plan.

On my old set up I had a piece of ply wood on top of the fenderwells, and closed in the area seperating the front and rear. All my tools, spares and such went underneath, and could get the stuff out by opening tialgate. A place to tie down the cooler and other camping stuff went on top.

I keep wanting to fab up a single seat in the back, and then storage beside it.
I almost never, (never if I went this route) have 4 people in my jeep, but I very often have 3.
But laziness kicks in, so I just haven't gotten around to it.

When i do, I'd like to have a "box" style bolt in that slides out the tail gate on rollers.
I also want to pad it somewhat, so the poor guy in the back seat beside it won't rupture a spleen on it when I hit a bump.
If I were doing the entire back, something like Chip did, but a little lower, maybe a flip up or removable top, and the back part sliding out. Bolted in really well since thieves will steal anything not bolted down REALLY well.

Yeah i like that idea Scrugby. I have Corbeau Baja buckets in the front so they dont recline, they slide forward but not enough to have someone climb in from the front. Since i have a hardtop i want to have a way for them to access the rear via tailgate. The ladies have a hard time getting in so they use the trailer hitch step as the way in. I was thinking of bucket seats like you see in a boat attatched to a half ft pole that swivel and lock. Ill have to see how safe that would be. But im still working on the rear seating. I like the drawer idea though. i might have to steal that.

well I may have to scrap that idea...

I cant get the damn seat out, the bolts are barley moving, if at all, and the stupid torx shit is rounding off...

I seriously hate this jeep sometimes.

Expanded metal rack, tied into the roll bars via muffler clamps. Under that was the rear tonnou(sp) cover. I had the windjammer, safari top(extends all the way back)
Strap stuff to the ex. metal rack, scooted plastic boxes under that. It all worked out perfectly.
