A friend of mine is selling his 1997 F-350, it has 170k miles on it, 7.3, 4 inch lift, 37 Iroks. He was asking 9 grand. What do you guys know about these trucks and would something like that be worth it for the price.

1997 was last year of square body style getting hard to find seems a little high though i seen one on craiglist last week had 105k miles and a flatbed with 35 swampers automatic crew cab for $6500 but people are very proud of these trucks if they have one for sale

For 9k, the truck would have to be damn near flawless. I've seen them hit that every now and then, but the norm seems to be more in the 6-8k range. I've currently got one with a blown 460 in it, hit 250k before she died...but that truck did everything I ever asked of it. There were times I'd be loaded up 3-4tons worth of dies in the bed and another 5-7 tons in a trailer and bring them to Hickory Springs or Freightliner, and then return to work with a similar load. If I could do that with a 460, it's scary to think what a 7.3 could do. I've never been in to diesels, but I rarely here any negativity towards the PS. IMO...what you're looking at is the truck to have before having trucks was cool.

The biggest problem is the lift and tires. This makes the truck difficult to use as a truck. Make sure it has been regeared to accomidate the bigger tires. Keep in mind they get lower teens fuel economy with stock tires, so with 37's expect single digits.

My advice is to leave that for the mall crawlers and get one close to stock height.
