i have a 1985 chevy truck with 33"s on it and i was wonderin what gears could i used to put it back to where it runs like it did with stock tires

First you gotta tell us what the original ratio is and what size tires were original (I'd imagine 30-31's)...but typically a 4.10 is a good ratio to bump up to with 33's.

Your equivalent ratio will be as close to a 2.59 ratio as possible. Not a chevy guy...but I had no clue their gearing went that low...hence my original post suggesting a bump to 4.10's...I figured you had something in the 3.08-3.55 range.

Ahh...ok...that makes more sense, your new equivalent ratio should be as close to 3.64 as you can get...so probably a 3.73.

In theory it should put everything back to stock specs, but added weight could possibly reduce mpg's...but going from a 31 to 33, I highly doubt you'll notice any difference.

sounds good to me i never could find anybody to tell me what to do my friend told me to put 4.10 gears in it then somebody told me not to do that

Yeah...4.10's are a bit deeper and would over correct...and you'd definitely notice mpg loss and top end loss...but would seriously enhance your offline performance. So if I were you, I'd go with the 3.73's and call it good.

what gears.

it depends alot on what trans you have to. if you have a turbo 350 then yes stick with 373. if you have a 700r4 then 4.10 would be best. cause of the fact of having overdrive. but i dont see a reason why you would need gears for 33s anyway i drove around for years with a stock 350 with towing cam and 33s with 273 and a turbo 350 and had no issues. but i would go with 4.10 if i were you. cause like already said everyone goes bigger eventually and you would hate to have to do it again.
