They think their shit doesn't stink? The guy at the "car farm road auto parts" yard said he wanted 100 bucks each for s-10 rear leaf springs. WTF is he smoking? I had to hold back the laughter, and actually let out a chuckle, in an attempt to say "OK thank you" while getting off the phone.

If you go there with cash and look poor, you can usually get shit for way way less than they "advertise" for. But you're right, some of them are fawking crazy.

Ever go to eastern automotive in Smithfield???? Lots and lots of jeeps....all made of gold.

They had a 99 hardtop....used....off a wrecked jeep....$1350.
98 D35 Axle with 4.10's.....$1200
98 D30 Axle with 4.10's.....$1100

Front center dash bezel....$250

Seats for a 99 TJ (vinyl) $475

Need a knob for the facn selector? You have to buy the entire control unit...$175 (not working, but has all the knobs)

Like I said....jeeps made of gold.

Keep in mind that many (if not most yards) cater to collision repair/body shops. IOW, they have NO problem getting outrageous prices from them (via insurance companies) and you attempting to come in & lowball over a part they can sit on for a few weeks/months for a 500%-5000% price difference... just pisses them off!

Having said that, find a NEW yard! I bought 2 complete TBI rigs week before last, pulled them myself (in a yard that does NOT allow customers in/on the yard), and was charged LESS than quoted on the phone... Yeap, look "poor"! I wore an old shop uniform, grimy boots, & tooled up in the "classic" CTD...

I have gotten one good deal from "car farm"

Went back looking for some dakota leaf springs & he told me $80 a side. =I wont go back=

Went to pull-a-part. got both sides for $52, didn't even have to pull myself. found them in the bed of a truck sombody got the rear axle out of.

lqk is good in clayton, but its usually pickedover, someone working there must like yotas, cause everytime i go EVERY 3rd member is gone, as well as any other choice parts. Youngs pick and pull in middle sex usually has a bunch of jeeps, and always a good selection of yota's old and new, the prices are usually good if there in a good mood, and they will pick a car up and move it for you free of charge if your pulling the parts. Heck I found one of those elusive 2nd gen 4runner 4.88 limited slip 3rds there today, 235$ for the complete axle, shaft, links, swaybar, shocks, and coils out the door.

Wonder how much a stock tape deck would be? $200? I bet it plays 8 tracks CDs and MP3s too!

Ive got a stock tape player that doesnt work....looks retro though....$50 and its yours...
:)

chris

Thanks! But I left my tapes in the 80's

....$50.... you must work at a junkyard!

I deal with the salvage fruitcakes every day. Youngs in dudley does pretty good, LKQ in Clayton is reasonable. Foss Salvage in LaGrange is okay if you talk to he right person (James extension 5110) as far as a straight up ghetto U-pull yard Gariss' in Ayden has good prices if you can find the part you need. Most of the time a u pull will want $50-75 for a pair of leafs. Standard yards want $75-125 per pair.

Better than New!!

Went to Schronce Salvage in Hickory the other day for an AX-15 tranny for the Jeep. Guy said he had one with 110,000 miles on it and it would be $1000. Didn't even bother hiding my laughter. When I told him a new rebuilt with warranty was $850 he said "well I guess that makes up your mind".

See I don't get that. Does dealing with the public just piss these guys off or what? How the fuck do they expect to get rid of anything? Or are they trying to keep all their "junk?"
