What PSI to run?

Just curious what would be a good PSI to run on a set of 285/75/16 E-rated tires on a Cherokee? It's my DD and so I figured I could lower it a bit to not have such a rough ride.

Any suggestions?

I always run my tires somewhere between 90-95% of max cold psi level on the sidewall. I can't speak of harshness, but I always meet or beat expected tread life.

Those are probably rated at 80psi. I run load E tires on my trucks at about 50psi, and on a cherokee, you could probably get away with 30-35 just fine. Basically whatever the percentage of the weight of a cherokee is to the max load of all 4 tires (probably 3500lbs/13000ish lbs) should get you in the ballpark as a percentage of the max psi, then add a little bit for safety factor. As always, use common sense. If the sidewall is bulging majorly, you need more pressure

Because running 33's on a 16" Moab wheel, it's either D or E, and the tire I chose only came in E. This was the first time I bought larger metric tires so I didn't know what I was getting into with load ranges. If I had money to blow, I would've ate the cost of buying new tires and this thread wouldn't be here.

Lowered them down to 40psi today and will see how they do for a bit.

I run 40psi on my load range E tires on my 03 Tacoma doublecab and they ride decent. At Discount tire they told me don't run them with less than 40psi or they would ride rough on a light truck.

The last set of 265/75-16s I bought were Kuhmo ATs and a set of E range tires was actually cheaper than a set of C or D range. Why? Who knows? Probably came from different suppliers or something. Anyway, I ran them at 45-50 on a Silverado 1500 reg cab, long bed. Got GREAT tread life and it seems like the compound was harder in the tread on the heavier tire. I didn't notice any difference in ride between those and the Toyo ATs I had before them.
