it says 2002 on it as if it was produced in 2002. It has 4.88 gears, some kind of traction device, most likely an LSD. Has 26 spline shafts that go into it and what looks to be an 8" ring gear. Any ideas?

I looked up the ARB locker listings to get some specs, looks like Suzuki was the only one doing 26 spline third members in 2002, and they had a 4.875:1 ratio (according to another source on Google). Isuzu had some rear axles back in the 90's with 26 spline shafts, but that doesn't matter does it? What are you going to do with it?

I just picked it up and was hoping to sell it. I wonder if those bolt in place of a solid zuki axle?

Pretty sure they do on the rear axles, but the Samurais had 5.125:1 axle ratios stock, don't think many will be gearing "up". The only aftermarket gears I know of are the Calmini gears that are 5.83:1.

Would this third fit into a sammi axle?

I don't believe so. That should be a rear out of a Vitara, and the ring and housing are larger than a Sammi. The entire axle could be modified to fit, but not just the third. I've seen a couple of people try to sell those without much success. Seems the "traction device" isn't really much of a locker. I'd have to ask around to find out what it really is, I didn't commit it to memory. BTW, Sammi's were stock 3.73. Trackers came with 4.30's, 4.62's, and 5.12's. Some Vitaras had the 4.88's. I think there was even a rare 5.38 in the first Sidekick.
