I have a 76 CJ7 and am going to lift it. I am looking at some 4" springs, or else a SOA. Any oppinions? Also, can I go 35's under a 4 inch spring lift with added shackles? One last question, has anyone run the GT Radial Adventuro M/T tires? Thanks for any and all help!:driver:

If you want to go with 35"+ tires, then do a SOA with YJ springs. I think you could fit 35's with 4" lift and shackles (+ maybe a 1" BL?). The SOA will perform better though.

X2 & it will be cheaper.

I already had 3"body lift that was on the jeep when I got it and I just put some heavy duty 2" lift springs on mine and it killed my ride. It looks good but the factory springs had a way better ride. Also it really hurt my gearing by adding the 35's it feels like my 3.54's are 2.73's I catch my self riding around in 3rd gear all the time now.

My CJ-7 has 4" Skylift Softride SUA springs (1999 era, maybe they're different/not available now), no body lift, a good amount of fender trimming, 4.10 D30/AMC20 built widetrack axles, no overdrive trans (T18), and 35x12.5 BFG MTs for the street. This setup worked great, drove great on the road, not harsh at all. Off-road I swapped on a set of 36" SX's and could go almost anywhere...I couldnt quite get over Kodak rock @URE, and certainly wasnt gonna hit the big stuff @DPG, but it would ride over almost everything else. Currently, I'm rebuilding it to address frame rust cracks and YJ tub swap (making no progress quickly), but will rebuild it exaclty as above.

Thanks for the response. That is probably what I will end up with. I think I am going with Tube fenders though instead of cutting. Great info!

I probably have the same frame issues RenegadeT. I just picked up a frame that came with replacement parts for all the rusty sections and has shackle reverse on the front not sure if I will keep that or not. I plan on going SOA with 2"lft springs and 1" poly bushing body kit. I've been kicking around ford 9" in the rear and D44 in the front. I heard you couldn't rear gear the amc20? Which ever way you go wade178 its Still a jeep and I'm sure all the jeep guys will agree there.

when I rebuild mine, I will probably add 1" poly bodylift, which should net me at least 1.5" over my current rusted/non-existent body mounts. Its kind of tight stuffing my 36" tires in the cut fender wells, I figure while I'm there, might as well lift it up 1".

my though's ^^^to, My tubs not rusty but those solid body lifts ride bad. What do think about shackle reverse?

If you are planning on having alot of flex/soft springs, you will have to control axle wrap with a shackle reversal.
