I'm looking at some 38s after re-lifting my K5, and i'd like some input on the tires. I'm running 16.5" wheels right now, but I would change them out if I really needed to. I've looked at the TSLs but because I drive it a lot I'm looking for something that has decent wear, but not too expensive, but it's used a lot offroad, so that is a more important consideration to me.

my buddy gets about 50k miles out of each set of his tsl sxs on his full size ford. he's also running a 38x15.50 if i remember right.... it's his daily driver and weekend wheeler.... i think as long as your suspension and alignment is all in proper working order then you shoudl need only to reotate your tires regulararly and you ought to be good to go again....

how bad was the life on your last set of 38's?

It has the 36" goodyear hummer tires on it right now, which the guy that I bought it from put on. It only had 3 inches of lift and the rest was fender trimming, so I bought it and just got done putting a 6" kit on it. I'm pretty interested in those tsl sxs because they're 15.5 inches wide and not too pricey. 50k miles is really good.. I'll probably end up going with those. 'Preciate it.

I am going to have to throw the flag on this one. Its hard to get 50K out of a set of highway tires rated for 50K on a fullsize truck.....even in the stock form. If you let the TSL/SX sit in the sun for 3 or 4 years and get hard....you may get that kind of miles out of them.

To answer the orginal question....BFG Muds or MTRs are going to be your best road/wheeling tires. Not the best at either...but respectable at both. Any of your swamper vareity is going to be better off road....but your tire wear is going to show.

xterrains are made in 37x13.50 and 40" now too, but the 40s are expensive. I have had many sets of xterrains and they are great tires. Ride and wear great on the road and do great in the rocks...

Has anybody had good luck with the radial claws or the radial TSLs? I've heard that the SSRs aren't that great offroad, but they make a 38.5x15.5x16.5, which is about the size I'm looking at, and a 37.

You couldnt get 50k miles out of tanks tracks on a full size Ford. And I have had at least one for 15 years.
