Im on the fence, sticky 43sx, 42 krawler stickys, or sticky iroks, or what are your thoughts

ive never personally ran them but ive seen the sx do amazing things, like hook where a tire just shouldnt hook

Krawlers are cool and everything and they stick to ice. But...the sidewalls suck. If mine were a trail rig only, it would have something other than Krawlers. You will cut one, it's just a matter of when.
New BFG 42's are over $500 each. That's an expensive gamble to take.
Go with PB, Interco or something similar. Especially if you like toi turn the wheels into an obstacle and floor it...

I've personally wheeled IROKs and Pitbulls. I've wheeled with guys who have Krawlers. Jody's right, Krawlers stick to anything but I've heard, not seen, the stories about sidewall strength. For that much coin I'd wheel slightly timid.

I've felt the sticky IROKs and they are gummy. I've also heard they chunk out. I've heard nothing but good things out of the SX so far. For east wheeling, I'm sold on Interco tires. They can dig, clean faster and they'll hook. Maybe not Krawler hook but they'll get the job done.

out of all the ECORS races, I don't ever think i've seen (can't remember all of em) a Maxxis have a sidewall failure. Last race along I know of 3 tire failures on a relatively easy course... all were BFG.

I had 2 sets of 39.5 Irocks and loved them in every situation. Those who say they don't go good in the mud just didn't have enough motor. They work best against other tires I thought is on wet rocks.I had 39.5 tsl's on same rig and hated them! I run 44 tsl's up front on my new buggy and 44 cut boggers on the rear.I wish they made a 44 Irock! Looking at the 49's if I can win the lottery. My 2 cents

I have had tsls, and driven on a couple of sets of krawlers, and my friend runs sx's. Out of those the sx's seem to work the best. I personally like my creepy crawlers though.

Treps aren't bigger than 40".

I know im really late to the party.... :flipoff2:

but if you need a tire (let alone a sticky one at that) bigger than a 40", you need a driving lesson. Or a rig that isnt a mile long. one of the two...

Oh....Trepadors all the way. Hands down, THE BEST east coast tire you can get your hands on. Period. I have run red labels, more red labels, iroks, SXs, more iroks, and even more iroks. The red label krawler was the stickiest for sure, but the trepador is all but as sticky and is way tougher. Ask brokeass4runner....he will tell you :flipoff2:

incorrect. you are awarded zero points.

42" Reds are Huge, I couldn't believe how big they were until I saw them in person and mounted them on my buggy.

There isn't a ton of sidewall on the 42s either since is uses a 20" rim.

The 43" Sx stickies are a badass tire for sure but I hope you have a 14 bolt or HP 60 front because a LP60 won't last. I can't tell you how many I have seen broke in the last year.

14 bolt rear with a 60 up front with 35 spline Chromos :huggy:

LP or HP 60?
what motor?

LP 60 with a 360 on propane. the axles are out of a CUCV with detroits. I upgraded the front to chromolies and drive slugs. I've wheeled 42 IROKs with steel wheel beadlocks and never had an issue.

The IROKs are 95#/tire and the new SXs are 121#/tire.

Well the problem isn’t just the weight. A sticky tire will put a lot more stress on a front end than a non-sticky will. Take a Toyota axle for instance….those front axles live all day long on 39.5 Iroks. Slap a set of 40” stickies on them and they start to implode.

That LP 60 may survive…it may not. A 43” sticky tire is a LOT of tire. If you are truly looking for the best tire you can get, a sticky is obviously the best option (so you are on track there), and trust me…the amount of stickyness that a Trepador (or a red label, or a creepy) has over a sticky irok or a sticky SX is insane. The smaller Maxxis or BFG is WELL worth the miniscule ground clearance advantage you won’t have if you went with the bigger tire. The size of the tire isn’t really what matters as much when you are dealing with a tire that has the performance of a REAL competition tire. The SX and the Irok stickies are good tires….but not in the same class as a real comp tire in my opinion.

I wasn’t saying my previous comment regarding not needing anything bigger than a 40” sticky, just because. I’m saying it from experience (both first hand and second hand). I stepped down from a set of 42” non-sticky iroks to a set of 39” red labels (before my Trepadors) and the performance of the buggy was incredible compared to what it was with the iroks. I have NEVER been sitting there stuck and saying “damn…I really wish I had my 3” of extra Irok back…”

You slap a 40” sticky on your rig, and you will instantly see what I am saying.

EDIT: That all being said...the 42" red label is by far the best choice if you are dead set on that. Get out your checkbook though :flipoff2:

What is breaking most often in the LP60s?
