What trans and t-case

OK guys, I just picked up another yj to build. I see alot of guys swapping out the 4.2 This YJ doesn't have a drivetrain right now. I was thinking about a 4.2, auto trans with a Dana 300. Does this sound like an OK combination? It will have
tons, 42s, etc. Is the 4.2 a good engine? What auto trans do I need to run to mate to the dana 300? Thanks in advance for any help.
 
personally I would look into a 4.0L or stroker before putting in a 4.2L...

there are a a number of trannies that you could use for it, depending on what you want... tf727, tf999, possibly th400... or you could get OD w/ a AW4...
 
Dont need the overdrive that a 700r4 or something of that nature would provide. This will get driven mainly on the trails and once in a while to work. I was thinking 350 sbc and a turbo350 but dont want to spend the money to adapt the Dana 300 to the turbo350 trans. I guess I could just go with the turbo 350/np203 or 205 but was just looking for a smaller t-case to keep the drivetrain shorter. Looks like it'll have a small block 350/ turbo350 or turbo400 and a 203 or 205. Anybody have any preferences on this set-up? Like I said, I'll be running tons, probably geared 5.13 or 5.38 and at least 42s.
It will also be stretched but not enough to run a 203/205 doubler. Probably around 106" to 108" (just a guess) wheelbase.
 
my build is getting 350,350 turbo,205. but I know alot of people happy with the 6cyl.
 
You could run an amc 360, tf727 and dana 300 all of that will bolt up together.
 
I have a 350/turbo350/205 in my YJ.Fits like it belongs there.:driver:
 
Either 88 or 89, havent picked it up yet.

my vote it the 727 with the 300 or 231 with hd rear output with that combo. or go all out and get an atlas or stak.
