guys you have remember I am coming from drag racing and new at this. I dont yet have a 4x but what is everyone on here talking about with 2 trans missions and transfer cases (repeat 2). What the hell is that about?

Doesn't much apply unless you're dealing with toyota's. If you are then it applies to you and ask again or search.

Bragging rights. I got 35 gear combinations and you only got 10.

But seriously, it's what they said.^^

Yeah, think of it like this. If the transfer case (In low range) takes the ratio of the gear you're in (Lets say it's 2:1) and multiplies that by 2, you're now at 4:1. If you have a second case, that doubles it again, now 8:1. Or if that second case is geared really now, like 4.7, then that 4:1 is now 18.8:1. So you can gun the engine and still just be crawling along.

Now a qestion for the other guys (Since I'm just a Toy nerd).
Why does this only apply toi Toyotas? Can't you do this w/ other models?

Sure you can do it on other rigs but you are restricted by the wheelbase length as to how long your driveshaft will be. Most short wheelbase rigs like CJs & Wranglers aren't long enough to use dual cases. Rode with a guy at the SFWDA convention that had a Stak case in his CJ though with something like a 340 final crawl ratio :) I didn't look to see how short his driveshaft was.

the dual trannys though, is almost a yota only thing, because of the female output on the tranny, which most other makers dont have...

the dual cases are used in alotta other rigs as well, but as said, it all depends on the WB of the rig

or you can just run a automatic trans and be done with it

I can crawl up/down stuf as slow as I want with plenty of power and control
Maybe the dual cases are for manual trans with wimpy engines
