What's everyone do for exhaust fab?

I'm the middle of this one ton swap on the old cj and the exhaust has to get moved around a bit. Haven't had to do exhaust work in awhile so what's everyone do here? Pick up a pile of elbows and straights from autozone or wherever you buy over priced 16 gauge tube and weld em up or is it just better to have it done at a muffler shop since I don't have any 2" dies?

I run from exhaust work. I've done it a few times. Give me some .063 stainless that I can TIG together, cool. The problem with exhaust tubing is the type of alloy used is really shitty. Some of it might be galvanized, some aluminized, some a complete mystery.
Mandrel "J" bends from Summit/Jegs are handy.

Hermans muffler shop just did a great job on my jeep

J bends, and do my own...

Full length buggy exhaust 2.5 SS, exits at rear tie rod, slinking around the upper link at full bump.

I take mine to a guy in Grimesland that does it at his house.

I've done both. On my trail rigs first exhaust I used all the overpriced az/adv/o'reilly parts I could buy and welded it up. After the doubler install and because I was in a time crunch for a Harlan trip I took it to a trusted local exhaust guy we actually use from my shop since we don't do exhaust at work. He kinked up some 2.25 pipes for me and I paid him just so I didn't have to mess with it.

On my Fairlane since I didn't want kinked up restrictions and the other exhaust guy I would use who builds race car chassis and custom tig welded exhaust is $$ (rightfully so, his stuff looks awesome) I bought a bend kit some extra j turns and straight 3" pieces and made my own again. The summit brand aluminized pipes mig up pretty good if you don't have huge gaps.

2.5" universal kit off eBay was around $125 shipped for a box full of straight, 45*, 90* and 180* that should have enough to do what you need including a few screw ups. That's what I bought to do the exhaust on my buggy. I'm sure it's the "finest chinesium" available.

I'm undecided what to do with my Jeep. I will either take it to an exhaust shop, or buy a kit for my Jeep and just modify it. Probably the first option because I am ready to drive this thing.

I have an old family friend with an exhaust shop I started using.

Got rust in my eye twice doing exhaust work, its cheaper than having my eyeball ground on to have it done and looks way cleaner.

Trick is finding someone that will take the time to tuck it up tight for offroad survival, or running an "offroad only" exhaust if certain parts are missing.

Amazon or speedway exhaust kits. Comes with 4 48” pipe, 4- 45, 4-90, 4-180 and cut up. Amazon vband flange kits and weld it up.

Also just for the thread, you can weld stainless pipe with regular mig and wire.

The weld will just stain more (rust) than the stain-less.

If you want to, you can get stainless wire for mig welding stainless and have a stain less weld.

I did my jeep originally in 08 with mild steel, and wrapped it. Yes the outside of the pipe is rusty, no it’s not falling apart. That $129 mild steel kit has lasted since then with the header wrap material on it.

I buy bends and build my own. I need to learn to TIG and start using vband clamps.

I’ve been using the FlowMaster U-fit kits for years. They are the most complete assortment I’ve found and can be bought in many different diameters as well as aluminized and stainless. Usually one kit will do 2 or 3 vehicles as long as they aren’t running true duals.
All the tubing is mandrel bent so if you do need to cut pieces mid bend to get something to work right the tube still. Matches up.

I know a few guys who’ve bought one kit, done their truck and a buddies truck and split the cost.
