I'm thinking of getting my 5 yr. old a crawler to take on the trails and play around in the yard. He's played with them before and loves them. I'm old school and like nitro but from what I understand they don't really make nitro crawlers. Plus I guess it would be way more convenient and more versital to have battery powered. I know absolutely know nothing about these things. I'm not looking for a racer or comp. crawler but a good all around dependable toy. I'm not looking for a walmart r/c but rather a good brand better built go anywhere kind of thing.
If you guys would let me know what price range you favorite crawler is would also be very helpful. I don't really know how to set my budget cause I don't want cheap junk but also don't want one way over his head and mine.

I think ya'll get my drift. Any info would help ASAP cause Santa's sleigh is warming up.

what i would do if i were you, dont know how big of rush you are in, but stay on the lookout for an AX10 used with some aluminum upgrades already and they can pretty much take any beating you can put on it....a decent used one, from just an average person not one set up for comps can be had for around $200 or less pretty easily, after messing with mine some my dad picked one up ready to run with charger and all for like $120....on a side note, with a 5 year old, im sure hes not the most patient when it comes to waiting on a toy to charge so one with LIPOs would be great, they run WAY longer and have smoother power in my opinion

not really for sure on a new price, just look online or most every hobby shop usually carries them around here

If buying new youll usually get a better deal at the store rather than online. HobbyTowns are all over the place

That's another question what is a good hobby store to do business with?
i usually only deal with hobbytownusa in hickory if i go to a store, most parts are cheaper online though so i usaully do that.....but they usually do keep a pretty decent stock of crawlers there though

Check out CKRC.COM Best deals and easy to work with. Best stock crawler is a losi night crawler. Look on ebay.

I disagree......stay away from the night crawler. Losi has discontinued all crawler support so stay away from their products. Stick with the Axial Ridgecrest or a AX10/SCX10 You will be much better off.

Call Matt at Anderson R/C and he can get you hooked up for a fair price with support after the sale. He is a great guy and has a great shop in Thomasville, NC. He will ship anywhere. Tell him Andy sent you.

The losi never breaks but there are still a ton of parts on ebay and the other websites. I killed mine when I had it and only replaced the steering servo.
