What's the best way to grind off stock perches? (14 bolt)

Cut through the welds as much as you can with a cutoff disc. Nock them off with a hammer. Grind down whats left of the welds. If you cut to deep, fill it back in with the welder.

I've got a C&C housing, what's the best way to get these perches off?
I was going at it with my angle grinder, but it was taking forever

Angle grinder with cut off wheel, cut along the welds until you just touch axle tube, smack off perch with hammer. Repeat.

I used a plasma cutter and a flapper disc to clean up. Cut through the welds as other have said.

cool, thanks guys. BFH to the rescue!

I need to get some more cutoff wheels... :)

I buy them buy the 100 from Enco.

Then get a 24 grit flap disc to smooth the area when you're done.

If you have a portaband that is a quieter way to do it. Don't get the grinding wheel bound up it'll hurt you big time. There is no forgiveness. Also wear safety glasses and a face shield.

I've done it on 8.8" with a disc grinder with a (4.5")grinding wheel.. took 3 hours to remove them all.. cut off wheels are quicker. oxy-acetylene would do nicely.

9" grinder with 9" cut off wheel = < time

Bigger grinder + Bigger Cut Off Wheel = More Damage

BTW, this wasn't done cutting off spring perches :)

I've done my AMC20 with a 4.5" wheel, hammer, cleaned up with the flap wheel.

No horror show pictures, I've been pretty lucky. JC, looks like you were very damn lucky with that, 1" lower would've really sucked

Don't think that's JC's arm in the pic. He's old, so much more flappy LOL
Had a grinder get me once, was glad it wound up my thin t'shirt and was just laying on my back going RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR and not turning!
