Nope, not a shank, (known in this neck of the woods as a ripper).
Basically it's a 4 plow sub soiler. used to break new/hard ground. The cylinder is sometimes fillable with either water, sand or concrete to make it sink deeper. You use this apparatus to break the ground, otherwise the disk harrow or rippers will just dance on the top.
Many box blades are also set up like this to break the ground that is to be groomed.
Hope this helps

scarifier,

or a ripper.

actually, unless the BRAND is Bush Hog, it's a rotary cutter. just sayin'...

I could use that, it's even the right color !!

ripper is pulled behind a dozer or track type tractor and is USUALLY one or two teeth (although they often do have slots for up to five teeth, scarifier is definitely da winah....

Don't worry, it won't last long anyway. The cutting teeth aren't replaceable. They should bolt on to those ripper bars so that you can replace them instead of the bars.

1- teeth are bolt on and hard a fawk, I'll make a pattern and make are replacement set
2. this is just for deer food plot sowing, so no big usage
3. it is in fact a bushhog brand rotary cutter

You can buy those teeth cheaper than you can make them.

That one looks like it has hardened feet welded to it, when it starts to wear, just get some hard facing rod & build them up. Be sure to use low heat so the parent metal doesn't contaminate the hard face alloy.
