I am on a quest to figure out the best setup to get the lowest possible crawl ratio with out going with an atlas or teralow. So everybody toss in there .02 and fill me in. I know this sounds kinda a newbie, but I don't really know what tranny has what 1st gear ratio or what transfer case has what. I am currently running a ax-15 with a 231 with 4.10 gears, 31.5 just don't seems to impressive to me. Everyone please chime and let me know what ya got without going the atlas or tera route.

If you aren't gonna go with the low TC gears, a doubler, or very low axle gears are your real choices.

Im at 88:1 and i like it pretty good. I am starting to toy with the idea of a double just for the added options.

Don't forget, you can't compare an auto tranny's crawl to a manual... 50:1 is marginal with a stick.. 50:1 in an auto is plenty... It's also depends on tire size, since that's not taken into account with 'crawl ratio"

4l60e = 3.06
NP241 = 2.72
Diff = 4.56
total = 37.95
I have no issues or lack of power to climb things

none of it is put together yet, but im planning on np435+np203+np205+4.88= 130:1 and plan on running 42's with a 5.0 spinning it all

T18-6.32:1, d300-2.62:1, 4.56, with 37s should be plenty low enough around here. I have considered 4to1 in the tcase but figured with the mud on the rocks wheel speed will suffer.

duall cases, nissan t-100 with a 2.07:1 Plus a samurai 4:1 equals to a 8:1 TC. 6.72 gears in the rockwells and a 3.56 frist gear in the trans. 39" tires
tatol is 193.54:1

I currently have a 39:1 which has been ok with 33's but I want to go with 35's and so i'm thinking of doing the tera low 4:1 which would bring me up to 59:1. I could live with that.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but by my calculations you have a 42.7:1 crawl ratio:
3.83 (1st gear) X 2.72 (Transfer Low) X 4.10 (Axle ratio) = 42.7
As they said, that might be good enough depending on how/where/what you wheel and what tire size you have. My low/low sometimes is alittle too low. Sometimes I'm running in 3rd or 4th gear to keep up with the other people I ride with. But boy is it nice when when get to the rocks! For the record mine is 73.3:1 ('05 Rubicon Unlimited, stock rubber for now).

old buggy was 1st gear (3.95) first t-case (2.28) second t-case (4.7) axle (4.10) tires 42" total crawl of 173:1 with a 5 speed. this was almost perfect.

first gear (2.52) t-case (4.7) axle (6.72) tires 44" total crawl of 80:1 with an auto. we will see how this turns out soon.

if you had normal brakes, you'd have a hard time keeping it stopped in gear, stone.. with my junk at 59:1 (auto trans), if I'm pointed downhill, it wants to drive through the brakes.

Don't think it'll be a problem with the Rock's though... ;)

I know what you mean about "driving through the brakes". My truck's V6 is torquey enough down low to do that.

3.581 x 3.92 x 4.636 = 65:1, whenever I get to swapping rear axle ratios to 4.90 and swapping the trans out for an older one with a 4.05 1st it will be at ~78:1.

nv4500 1st gear 5.67?? x 4.3 tcase x 5.13 axle=125.01:1 with 42s;)
same as stones buggy was

I wheel in 1st gear,high range all the time with this combo 29.09:1 the v8 helps
