Wheel center caps...

I have a set of Crager Soft 8's and I have the chrome center caps on them. I am not a chrome kind of guy (anyone that has seen my rig knows it is missing a lot of paint and 'looks' don't mean much to me). So... do you need to have the center caps on there? Is it better to take them off so they don't get bashed on the trail? What do you guys (and gals) think about them?

Center caps are just for looks. No real benefit to having them other than to clean up the center of the wheel. Ditch'em.

sandpaper and black spray paint.

This is what i did on mine.. the center cap is off my 98 Xj
Drilled 3 holes on each wheel and installed.

So you guys just scuffed them up with sand paper then rattle canned them black? Do the caps keep enough mud and debris out to merit keeping them?

I was told to keep them on, mostly so you dont rust the cotter pin and axle nut retainer to the axle and make it a huge bitch to get out...

thats kind of what I was thinking. I like the factory Jeep ones posted above, my aftermarket centers are pretty big and bling.
