Planning on taking the TJ out to U.R.E on Sat , my question is I have a open element cold air intake and I was wondering if it will be ok or should i change back to the factory air box before i go ?? I have the block off plate on the bottom but its a open cone filter on top.:jeep:

When I went to stroke my TJ, I had been running a semi open element cold air intake. Once I pulled the intake manifold off and finished cleaning all the grit out, I went back to the stock airbox. 50k miles later, the intake manifold is still way cleaner.

I'd ditch the cold air on anything that will see much off road use. The benifit isn't that great unless you just want more noise, and the more open it is the bigger the risk is. I've doused the open element on my old Durango a few times playing around and never did any noticable harm, but when I pulled it off there was a muddy water colored streak down the inside of the throttle body/intake. Not worth the risk in my opinion.

ive done it. been to the flats, ure and locally. havnt had any problems. steer clear of the soup bowl though!
