like it says, i am searching and not having much luck. when and where did they use an aw4 tranny. i am throwing some ideas around and want to go 22re to an automatic, but yota's aren't much in the way of autos.

what did the yota aw4 bolt to?

any ifo would be sweet--

Toyota never used an AW4 specificly, it used Asin Warner transmissions, which the AW4 is a version of. I know the tacoma's, tundra's and supra's with auto trannys all have Asin Warner Tranny's

Not sure what auto came behind 22re's, but I have always heard it sucked tons of power from the motors

that would explain why the tranny numbers never say aw4, thanks for the info lee. are they relatively tough trannies though? i know there are no adapters to gm trannies unless they are specially made.

search pbb there was a good post some time ago about which ones all swaped and the various input shaft measurments, some had different motor bolt circles, while some had differnet bell housing/tranny patterns. Could be possible to mix/match.. i had some pic that were uploaded but they are at home...

Search PBB , don't take this as "the gosphel" but I've been told the XJ AW4s will bolt up to a northstar or shortstar motor..finding wiring harnesses for a northstar shouldn't be to hard because I know several people run them in streetrods. Also it seems like I read that an AW4 will bolt up to a Lexus ls400 motor...again you need to search around a little.

i searched pirate, didnt find much. what is the trick the lets you search a word that is too short?

Try AW4* maybe?

only if it was the rare AW4 from behind a 2.5 XJ. The 2.5 has the 60 degree GM bellhousing bolt pattern, same as the northstar. The 4.0 AW4 bellhousing will only bolt to AMC motors as far as I know.

Big problem with the AW4's is they are electronicly controlled, there are ways around that, such as www.AWshifting.com , this also has some good AW4 info http://www.stu-offroad.com/engine/aw4/index.htm
Other than that, they are damn strong trannys, many supra guys run a version of them pushing 6-700hp with no problems. I have heard all kinds of stories of them going in jeeps 200k+ with never having any service at all.

just read that too by typing in aw4*. thanks for all the help guys, basically there isnt much out there, and my best move would be to go to a different motor, like 4.3 to 700r4...we will see

Well I've never heard of an A340. I know that the Supra uses a tranny almost identical to an aw4 and they are cross-referenced. so.. :flipoff2:

*ALMOST* does not count. ;)

check your engine swap laws and what all is necessary to get the job done.
and if its feasable then go for the bigger engine you'll love it. even stock the 4.3 vortechs are strong.

the engine conversion bellhousings can be purchased pretty cheap on the boards. I sold my old one for 250

I saw a complete engine set up including the 4.3 and 700r tranny and tcase adpater for like 750.00 or so with wiring harness. course it didn't last long on the boards but hey what do you expect.

as far as transmission information goes check with marlins site he has all sorts of information on most every toyota transmission available.

marlin crawlers

not too worried about engine laws, this is not a registered and tagged vehicle. after using it a little, i like the 22re, just want an auto somehow and the only adapter i see out there is to a powerglide.

arent a powerglide adn a th350 bellhousing the same?

I guess you sold your Jeep then? What did you buy? Got pics?

DK

did sell the jeep, bought a buggy. no pics yet, hopefully will have some this weekend. search on pirate under convertiyota, you should find some pics, he built everything.
