I bought a home made trailer and now I'm in the process of getting it registered. I went to the DMV and got the form so now I need to stamp the VIN on the trailer. I've done some searching and I think it needs to be stamped on the collar and the axles.

1) Where is the collar of the trailer? I'm guessing it's the front triangle section but I want to get it right.

2) Where on the axle do I stamp it? Do I just stamp the tubes somewhere on the bottom of each axle?

Thanks in advance

I was told to stamp mine on the axle, and on the tongue. They checked the tongue, but didn't crawl under it to check the axle

Best place on axle is on backside and make it clear and big...

I sanded down an area then stamped and painted just the stamper letters so DMV could see them easily.

Also on Tongue..

Easier to get it passed if they do not have to search for Vin #

Stamp it in a couple of out of the way places also. Under the tongue and under the trailer somewhere. That way if some one decides to take your trailer and grind off the VIN #'s you will still have a way to identify your trailer.

A friend of mine had his motorcycle trailer stolen a few years back and having the VIN # stamped under the tongue helped identify it when it showed up in S.C. almost a year after it was stolen.
