Guys in the Greensboro, High Point, and Thomasville area...Where is a good place to get scrap steel for bumpers, cages etc...? I've gotten some from Owensby's before but i'm wondering if there is any where else. TIA:beer:

I've heard DH griffen recommended more than a few times for stuff like that.

Try a large fab shop. They normally pay to get rid of the scrap and some will just let you get it for next to nothing...

Yo,

Ryerson on 300 Gallimore Dairy Road is a HUGE distributor of metal in Greensboro. I do not know if they entertain little ants like us on this board. But, if they don't have it, its not available.

D.H. Griffen on Hilltop Rd. in Greensboro is where I go. I usually find what I want out there for cheap!

Ryerson is who I get all of my steel from.

I would have mentioned it earlier, but he was asking about SCRAP steel...

Tri-State Steel always has the best prices when I order. They only have a $100 minimum too.

I just priced 10 sticks of 1 3/4 .120 HREW for 51.00 per stick. Do you normally get it cheaper?

what about charlotte area. Where do you guys get steel?....not trying to hijack this thread, but just trying to expand the area too.

There's a place called Foils, north of Harrisburg on Hwy 49. Head north on 49 from 485, go through Harrisburg and it will be on your right, just past Pharr Mill Road.

They sell both new and scrap. I've gotten some good deals on the scrap stuff for small projects.

There is a place in downtown durham called durham brazing... The guys have been there snice the dinosours were around. They are old, grumpy, and self centerd... but I like the prices :D (perks of knowing them forever and a day)

I get most of mine from out of the dumpster at work.
