I've always had a hell of a time trying to find a business who sells steel to the public in the Charlotte Area (prefer uptown area, south Charlotte, Union Co, or York/Lancaster area).

Where can I go buy 10-foot sticks of an assortment of steel (4x1/4 flat, 1.5x1/8 flat, 1.5x1.5 angle, 1.5 sq tubing, varrying gauges and sizes of sheet metal, etc.)? Or if the place makes cuts of any size?

Stock car steel is very expensive and don't really like to deal with small orders Call Damon at race city steel (704)489-2101 in denver and he should be able to take care of you he always does me right and usually has good prices

They don't carry round tubing, but for pretty much anything else I really like Howard Steel over on Graham Street in Charlotte. They don't mind small lots at all. I generally buy stuff one or two sticks at a time and they don't mind cutting it down to transport it. They're very good guys to deal with. Their number is 704-376-9631.

E.M.J. is great if you are buying in bulk. Shortest thing i have every got was 20ft and if your not buying at least 200Ft of everything you mentioned... dont wast your time. You dont get the good prices unless you are buying in bulk.

try Schwarts Steel(spelling?) In Gastonia, they used to run a truck to a small fab shop I worked at, north of Asheville, for any order over 100$ ( but we did have a charge account witrh them) and their prices were good.

Go see Tim at Foils on 49, Howard Steel is closer to you though. No experince with the others....but... Stock Car Steel - I don't know how they stay in business. Been there only twice, new what I wanted and what the going price was - they quoted me double going rate - had to start walking out, then they called me back and dropped the price - still high but I was in a bind and needed it. If they think you're not in the "know" they'll try to gouge you.

I was told to go to Morris Scrap metal. They are somewhere near gastonia, or kings mountain or something. I heard they have real good prices and carry alot of odd sizes too.

I work for PPC Specialty Metals in Monroe. We mainly sell Tool & Die steel and specialize in small cut pieces, but I can get good prices on 1018flat bar, a36 hr plate, 6061 alum, dom tubing, alloys, drill rod, etc. We do have a $25min, but I could probably get you better prices than the big outfits in Charlotte would sell to walk-ins. We do not deliver so everything would be p/u or you pay freight. Drop me a pm and i'll see what I can do for ya.
