I am looking to buy a tool to put snaps on my bikini top. I am hoping somebody here can reccomend a GOOD QUALITY tool (not the el cheapo use once) and where to buy it from around the Durham area. I will also be needing the snaps and hardware to do this job.

Again, I like to buy quality tools so hopefully a professional grade piece to add to my box.

Tell me what worked well for you. TIA

Not entirely sure, but you probably would want to try fabric stores?
I know there is a fabric store out on Capital, north of 540, I can't remember the name, but you can't really miss it.
They had huge grommets when the wife wanted those. I'd assume they'd have the snaps and the tools probably?
Or even better, like with the grommets, they'll let you install them using their tool if you buy the buttons.
(The stupid press in tools are )()(#@ pricey)

For instance, ~400 for that one, but it looks like you can get a decent one, that uses "specific" buttons for ~100-180$

if you have a boater's world store around they sell the tool and all the stainless snaps

Hey, I'm dealing with snaps/making a top right now
I'm not sure what ize/style yo uwaant... but if you go to Lowe's they have a pack of Stanley snaps for about $6. It's only 6 coplete units, BUT it comes with the tool to crimp on the top/female half. Automotive Fasteners has the same style/size snap units for just a few cents per peice (you can buy the top button, top insert, and bottom seperately through them.
The tool in the Stanley/Lowe's kit is not "high quality" by any means, but I jut did one and it works fine. It's a big round die, a punch and a sleeve to hold the punch. I think teh intention to to hit the punch w/ a hammer, but if you use a vice instead it works very cleanly. My only complaint is that the die is some kind of plastic (Delrin?), not steel.

I ended up going to lowes and buying a generic snap kit. My only complaint is that it only came with enuf to make 6 snaps. I only needed four so it was okay this time. It costs 6 bucks and worked rather well.

I had to tap the roll cage for the lowers to screw in properly, other than that it was easy to put in the canvas and they held up all weekend at Callantee. Where were you?????

I need to replace some snaps for my boot on my Miata. I'll look at Lowes. Thanks

Jeeps still down, but new springs are ordered. Hunting a used tow rig now, something cheap and easy to repair.

I think not, I'll wait on the tow rig for a while. Haven't used the jeep in 2 years, no sense starting now. LOL
