I know I can search, but it would seem like a good idea to have a single topic with an accurate list of where to legally go fourwheeling in and around NC. Particularly if it could be made into a sticky on the top of the forum so that it doesn't have to be searched for every time. After all, this site's primary audience is "trail riding 4x4 enthusiasts."
Here's my list of where to go, and it's shortness explains why Im looking for more:

Uwharrie Natl. Forest, $5/day, $30/year, open April-November. On highway NC109 south of NC49 intersection. Trails can be done in a stock vehicle with a few exceptions (Daniel, Dutch John). More info here.

Richland Gap Road, no charge, open year round. NC321 between Lenoir and Blowing Rock. Richland road turns off to the right after passing the small gas station going up the mountain. Once the lines in the road end, bear right across the large creek (actually the Yadkin River). This is the trail, an abandoned state highway. It is a pretty easy run with a few challenging to impossible hillclimbs and mudpits off to the side. Some of the locals are a little sketchy, but its usually alcohol induced. The trail can lead out to Blowing Rock, or you can turn around and head back to 321.

Tellico ORV Area, $5/day, currently open year round. Near Murphy, NC. Some easy trails, plenty of very difficult trails. Directions and more info/maps can be found here.

Richland road is little harder to find too since all the construction there isn't a sign there now. On the Richland trail you can also keep going and come back into 321 thru Happy Valley (close to Lenoir)where the 4 lane used to end headed towards Boone.

I thought richland rd was private land now. And what about on old hwy 18 just south of morganton going across towards the gamelands. I guess most of that is state park now though.

As far as I know the Richland road it's self is still open, but there are many many no trespassing signs on the left and on the right. You just have to stay on the road. No exploring.
If you are referring to the old CC road, then yes, all of that has been taken in my the State Park.
