i decided i needed some more dependable transportation but i'm torn because i really love diesels but its more money per gallon and on parts. on the other hand i found a pretty cool little cavalier. im torn on which i should get if i do get one it would be my dd and i dont have anything really to tow (yet). which one do you think would pay for itslef in the long run. and i don't go trade cars every two weeks like some people:flipoff2:

stats on cars:

96 Cummins 12v $6000
5 speed 4x4
180k miles

2004 Cavalier $5300 after tax, tags, and title
54k miles
5 speed
nothing power at all
and some blingy, bling rims

You're gonna pay for the Cavalier in the long run in parts, repair, and depreciated value...

If you can't swing seperate tow and DD vehicles (my preference), between those two I'd go w/ the truck

The truck can do anything the car can, only downside is decreased gas mileage. The car will never be able to haul lumber or pull a trailer.

The cummins is rough, if it's the one in charlotte. Way better than the car, but It hasn't had an easy 180k miles and I believe it needs a lil work.

how many miles per week do you drive? If you are not towing anything and already have a truck (or close access/family/friend) I would get the car.

the cost of fuel alone from the car will be half of that from the truck. IMHO the maintenance will be less with the car over the comparison of the life of the two vehicles.

I will say this, there are some things a car just cant do.

i have a truck near me but its a 1/2 ton short bed so its not gonna be able to haul any trailer big enough for anything that i use a trailer for. and it depends on how long the car last and how long the truck last. i know it will cost more on fuel because of the price differance. but i could do most if not all the repairs to the cummins, the car on the other hand im not too sure about because of all the regualtions and computer crap.

it depends on if i take this job in winston or not too. to there its 60 miles round trip or if i get the job in lexington it will be maybe 20 miles round trip

Of those 2 choices, I voted for the Cummins, but then again I'd never even look at a Cavalier. Poor build quality, poor reliability, poor resale value, poor girl getting power. If you need something that gets good gas mileage, look for a Honda or a Toyota car.

i've looked at hondas and can't find one that i like thats not a fortune. i can tell you one think though is that i've heard of stock cavaliers outruning built hondas. but i would like to find a honda i just haven't found one i like yet or i find ones that say trade for another civic, i take that as i've run the crap out of this one and its about to blow up so i want to get rid of it

For the money I think you can do way better... Shoot me a PM and let me know what your looking for and I will help you out. My buddy dabbles in car sales on the side and has a 94 GSR Integra, 97 LS Integra, 2002 BMW, list goes on, I dont know what he is wanting but if your interested shoot me a PM and I can get you a list of prices and all, or you could even come take a look at the 97 XJ I am selling :D

where is the "neither" vote?
I was looking it for it too.
def. no on the cavalier. but if mpg is what you need in a dd the cummins isnt it either. it does good but not 35 mpg like most small cars. I bought a $1500 dd so I could have a good diesel tow vehicle.

buy my '08 Chevy HHR :driver:

god i hate them things
