Ive had one of those encounter in reality, so this big ole truck that i always wanted to build isn't going to happen, So I am going to build a zuk, i know i can build one of those with out the wife kicking my ass... so here is my question, which is stronger, a zuk axle or D30/8.8? stockish engine, 33" LTB's. i only ask about the D30 is because there are a lot of them at my local junk yard so i can get them with no problem.

why not yota axles?
but to answer the d30 and 8.8 should be good on the 33's and prob stronger than the zuk stuff. a 30 is driver drop though and i believe a zuk is pass which would make the yota axles a better choice...just my .02

that is not as strong as i believe they are low pinion, not sure about spline count on the older 30 shafts but should hold up to 33
how about a cheap set of 44s from a older full size cherokee
the 8.8 is a winner
scout 44 front is pass drop

Do the Toyota axles no matter where you have to get them. You won't regret doing them later.

x2 I wouldn't even consider anything other than Yota's for a Samurai. Depending on how hard you drive, you might be able to keep the Sami axles. My Samurai still has the stock Sami axles under it, but with Trail Tough chromo shafts in the front. I have broken one of the Trail Tough front chromo shafts, and one stock rear shaft. I am running 34" LTB's, and drive it fairly hard. I've also got a 1.6 16v motor and 6.5:1 TC gears. The Trail Tough chromo shafts are deal at only $250, but there is no warranty, and you can't buy just one shaft. You have to buy a pair, which sucks when you break one.

If you are patient, you can get a deal on the Yota axles. I found mine for $200, and they are currently in my shed. Or buy a whole truck that needs work, and part it out but keep the axles. A buddy of mine did that and ended up with about nothing invested in the axles after parting it out.

Go with the yota axles for sure. I have did just about every axle you can think of under a sammi and the yota's are the best/easiest. If you cant find any local send me a PM and I can usually get a set for around $300 for both.
