I'm Planning on getting this B4 I make my 9hr drive to PA this coming wknd and wanted some opinions on which, what and where to get this.
THANX-

Sirius. We have XM at work, but I prefer Sirius.

I'll preface this by saying I've only owned and listened to Sirius, but I've talked to several folks who own XM. From what I can see now, musically, the two are about the same.

Used to be XM had some commercial music stations, but they've since gone 100% commercial free for music stations (like Sirius). They've also raised their prices to match Sirius (XM used to be a buck or two cheaper).

If I was going to decide between the two now, I'd base it on any of the sports or specialty programming the two offer. At this point, Sirius has NFL, college football, they'll be getting NASCAR next year and Howard Stern starts in January. XM has Major League Baseball and they just got the Hockey contract. For a more complete breakdown, I'd check out the Satellite Radio info on crutchfield.com.

I'll usually listen to NFL games and NASCAR races when I'm travelling on the weekends, so I'll stay with Sirius. I love the way they do football games, they broadcast each game on two channels, so you can listen to the home announcers from each team.

Either way you go, I think you'll be happy. The worst thing I about satellite radio for me are the times I'm in a vehicle that doesn't have it. I can't stand commercials when I want to hear music.

Hope that helps,
Jeff

I got Sirius last year shortly after Stern made is future known. I saved a few bucks over the monthly rate and got a year of service. I considering the lifetime subscription now. The Sirius service is great. Do yourself a favor and research the reciever whichever route you chose. The display on my "SR04" reciever fades as the unit heats up. Sound quality stays great, but the display is difficult to read.
DirectTV recently started offering the XM music stations to its customers. Way to much talk between songs for me. Just based on the short amount of time I've listened to XM, I prefer Sirius.
Also, you can listen to Sirius on a trial basis online. Check it out and make up your own mind. Either way you choose, you'll be suprised how bad FM radio seems after you listen to satelite radio.

Ok leav it to me to be different...
Adter a year of Sirius I switched to XM, after riding in my dad's chevy for a week when he needed my truck.

Now I miss NFL.
I could care less about Stern.( He really thinks he invnte the lesbian?....)
I like Nascar and hate that they will lose it in '07, but...anything they carry except the old races (any one listen to this?) and Claire Lange's show are on FM on like 4 stations in Charlotte alone....and Claire has signed to keep her show on XM on a new station once Nascar leaves and the new motorsports channel is launched...

SOOOOO to me it comes down to the music.
IMO XM has deeper playlists and updates them more often than sirius. Sirius alqways seemed to be a week or two behind FM in new song releases while XM seems to be before. Also with Sirius whenever I listened to one channel too long I woul hear the smae song repetitively (even the "older" channels, I'm a little more understanding if your listening to a top 40 station but when listening to classic rock there should be enough selection to ensure I dont hear the same song both on the way home an to work...)
JUST my opinion, but I love XM and wouldn't go back
Also the MyFi is Awesome; and XMs recievers seem to be bettr in general

Like others have said either one you choose they are way better than FM

I'm most interested in the music, don't care too much about the talk and I'm usually sure to be somewhere I can see my sports. I listen to Metal, classic rock, country and bluegrass but I like to here a good variety of them-old and new. Thanx for the replies so far this is gonna be a fun decision:rolleyes: .

hey Matt, tell Jeremiah to start wheelin the heep or go buy a compact hybrid!!

I have XM, but theres only a few stations I listen to that are ok.. I guess im picky..

As far as XM not having commercials.. well they do have XM commercials which are annoying, and they also have talk time where they talk about the artists, the artists come into the place and chat.. I hate that I just want to hear the music..

And I usually hear the same stuff over and over..

I prefer my MP3 CD player.. 10hrs of music on one cd..

I have xm, and I like it. In fact when I got it in the car (present) I put it in the jeep soon after the car b/c I enjoyed the selections . I love the fact I can hear it on the trails :jump: It rarely went out, and when it did it was only for a few seconds

I've always had the opposite experience, again strictly speaking for Sirius compared to FM. I listen to both the New Rock and New Country stations and both seem to come out with new music much faster than FM. In some cases, I'll hear the local stations "debut" a song a month or more after it's been in regular circulation on satellite.

I agree with purpleTJchick, one of the coolest things about satellite in general is being able to listen to your favorite station no matter where you are. On the trail or travelling cross country, I always know where I can find a station I like.

I have XM and like it very well I have it at home and in the truck. The only problem I have with it(and Im sure Sirrus is the same) is that they are very uncensored especially on 80's rock channels like the boneyard. If you have family or small children that you really dont want picking up the f-word you kinda have to monitor what your listening to.You dont leave it on unattended.I have heard more Ratt,Krokus,Skid Row and the like in the last year than I have since I was in HS in the late 80's

Does anybody have any experience with Delphi MyFi XM Satellite Radio? It is suppose to be portable. If anyone has used this how is the reception? Thanks Casey

XM has deeper playlists and much fewer repeats.

Dude.... what channels are YOU listening to?

IME, you can set your watch by the playlists on XM. Oh, look.... it's 3:20. Time to play Games Without Frontiers. The channels are much more homogenized, too.

I hoped to find a good, broadbased channel on XM that played a huge range of stuff. Their ad campaign suggests that they are to FM was FM was to AM... but I have yet to find a single channel that fits the bill. The only one that comes remotely close is the damned Starbucks channel.

There are several channels on Sirius that play from a broader base of music, tho.

The myfi has a small ant. that clips to your clothing somewhere. sounds goofy but its not that bad. XM is 12.99 a month, I think that sirius is the same.

MYFI GOOD.
GREAT OUTDOORS, IN CARS.
GOOD IN BUILDINGS.
Makes it nice dont need boom box kit, it will transmi to a radio ... if you cn get recept, mine is great everywhere but at work, and online wont play talk...errrrr.

AS for price $12.99 BUT if you are quoted the old price $9.99 they will honor it, also they will give you hella deals if you basically just ask.
When I added my 2nd and 3rd units they gave me 6 months free with 18 upfront...

As to playlists, XM is more narrow tracked, but i was referring to the playlists within sub cats. For example 80's will play much more 80's than anytuing I had on sirius but there is no 80-90-2000 channel.
I guess its whatever floats your boat...

kickin' it back to the top

it's my understanding that one has more channels than the other?

I'm so very undecided  (it comes with being a Libra, or so I heard)

I got my wife one, works well, even picks up in the house providing you have the antenna near a outside wall. Overall, I like the thing and being able to record several hours of programming to listen to at will is nice. It also has a easy to read display. The only problem I have with it is the Subie radio doesn't like to pickup the fm signal from the unit. However, thats a radio thing, not a myfi thing. Good excuse to upgrade the subies head unit.
