im considering putting a selectable locker in the rear of my 1998 f150 but im not sure which. I've been looking at the Ox Eaton E-Locker Auburn ECTED or if any of u out there know of one that will work for the 8.8.
Personally, I'd stay away from the ECTED. Its not a true "locker" just a glorified limited slip. Also, they wear out over time. Auburn has a differential exchange program called D-REX that will only let you exchange it once (IIRC).
I was gonna suggest ARB or OX based on what friends have run..I have an ARB-New-In-A-Box...just not in a rig at the moment...so I can't give you a true seat time opinion on that...
ECTEDS are great up to 33" tires, after that, I think the clutch system isn't the best solution for a selectable. That was my experience anyway.
I had cable adjustment issues with my Ox, but always felt they were rock solid. However, I blew one up on 35"s out at Devils Playground.
My ARBS have been flawless so far. I was an ARB hater for a long time, but now I will admit they they have been the best combo for me. I'm now running 37" Pitbull Rockers and the lockers have been great with them.
After buying the cable for the Ox, it is actually more $$$$ than the ARB.
I have run the ARB's that I have now, and I used to have an Eaton E-locker in my 8.8. I would advise you to stay away from the Eaton unless you're planning on sticking to relatively small tires and light, occasional wheeling. Despite being fairly careful with engaging and disengaging it I managed to hash the locking pins on the E-locker. I did a write up on the rebuild if you want to see what the internals of the Eaton look like. I replaced it with ARB's front and rear, and they have been flawless. The only issues I have had were external, like melting the rear air line with my exhaust and choking one of the air solenoids in mud. I would suggest buying some of the heavy duty air lines that various places sell over the 5mm blue plastic air line that comes stock with the ARB. Also, when I redo my center console I'm going to plumb in manual valves for the air lockers instead of the solenoids, but that is more of a personal preference rather than any defect of the ARB.
