I need tires for my Ranger. It never sees grass or mud. It's a 4 cylinder that I got for a DD. I rarely haul anything in it and never anything heavy. It takes 225x70x15 tires. I can get those as a SUV tire or as a passenger car tire. The difference seems to be that car tires have 60-70,000 mile warranties and SUV tires have 40-50,000 mile warranties. One dealer told me that a SUV tire will have better wet weather traction and since my truck is rear wheel drive and has no weight on the rear that's what I needed for good traction. Is there any truth in that? I've had two accidents in the rain, so wet weather traction is very important to me. I thought the only real difference was that a LT tire had a thicker sidewall and a little more open tread.

Not sure which tire would be better for that Ranger, but here's a trick I learned in NJ when I had my S-10 2WD... get about five 8"x16" patio blocks and line them up along the front wall of the bed. They'll give you extra weight on the back wheels without eating up space for hauling, and should just about fit perfectly so they won't shift around. BTW, I usually bought car tires for that S-10, 215/75R14 M/S. Never had a problem with those because some of them come with pretty hefty tread, too.

Hope that helps some.

From what I have learned in the past, the tires that do best in traction and mileage are an all season type tread. Wide is not your friend when it comes to keeping traction in the rain. More tire to the ground means less pounds per square inch. so a narrow tire keeps more traction. a tire with good siping does best all the way around. A tire that is rated at 70k is usually hard, and not that good of traction. Just a few things to think about
