Which tranny

Was going to swap in a 904 into my cj8, but now people are telling Me that there will be more clearance problems with the 904 than a 727. I currently have a 258 with a dana 300. Pass drop. 2.5 suspension lift, 1.5 body lift. Dana 30 up front, 9" ford rear. In previous post people said the opposite. Which one is right? THANKS

I have a 727 and I had a 258 engine at the same time. I have about 5 3/4" of lift total. Thats 2" spring, 2" body, and 1 3/4" shackle lift. I have very little clearence issues. The 727 is a stronger tranny that the 904. I would go that way if i were you.

I agree. I have the 727 with 4" suspension and 3' body and have no issues. The 727 is a very tuff tranny!

Size wise they are very similar with the 727 being a wee bit bigger than the 904.
