I'm gettin a locker this weekend. Where can I take it to have it put in? I allready have my v6 3rd pulled and ready to go.:driver: How much am I looking at for the install?

if its a lock-rite type locker, you obviously have the skills to pull the third, so you should just go ahead and do it, but i assume you mean a full case type locker such as a detroit or ARB, the only place i have first hand experience with is carolina rockshop, and i know the price would very reasonable, especially since you have the third pulled

that said, i bet there are others closer to your area who could do it for you also

It's a detroit

Its simple. Read the directions and learn it. Buying the tools you'd need (if you don't already have them) would be cheaper than paying someone to do it...

I don't have the tools...What all would I have to have?

a couple of sockets, ratchet, prob. a torque wrench, etc.

Most places like Western Auto/etc. loan specialty tools out for free...

It should be really easy since its not in the vehicle. Instructions will prob. tell you what tools you'll need.

I'm gettin it slightly used..there won't be any direstions unless I look them up on pirate or something...I will look for the instructions tonight

I think we talked yesterday but we typically charge $75-100 to put a full case used locker in a toy 3rd like that if you pull the 3rd and bring all the parts. Just depends on the time and condition of the 3rd. We also typically recommend just replacing the carrier bearings and that is about it. Just basically has to have the backlash reset.

Rock shops price of $75 to $100 is very fair, and since he knows how and has done many, it's would be money well spent.

75-100 is a great price. If you don't have access to a shop press let them do it. A press big enough to do the job is around $125 at Harbor Freight. Machine shops are just getting too expensive to press bearings on.

It can be a great chance to learn some new skills, and add some good tools to the inventory as well. But at Andy's price, you get it done quick, and have that added piece of mind that it's done right.

I've got paint/dial indicator/base/calipers/press/stuff in morganton you can use if you decide to go the diy route. I'm cheap as shit so I would probably do it myself...but $75 almost makes it not worth the hassle.

:edit: I should have refreshed... pretty much what everyone has said is right on.

I am in line with everyone else on this $75-100 is a fair price. I have either setup or helped set up gears and lockers several times. So I know what kind of time and effort is involved and that price is a good one.

Agreed on that price, but if you can find someone with tools to help you out it would be a great learning experience. It's so simple that you would be hard-pressed to mess it up. If you weren't so far away (and I wasn't taking a 4-day trip to NY this weekend) I'd offer to help you out, I have everything you'd need.
