Ok I have a buddy that is getting moved to Greensboro for his work...

and I wanted to find out where are the nice places to live and the places to stay away from...

He mentioned that he does not mind driving a few miles into work.. but would like atleast 1/2 acre and a decent size house... ( i would say 1500 and up feet)

Thanks

work address:
3000 HIGH POINT ROAD
GREENSBORO, NC 27403

Greesboro is FULL. No more room. Tell him he'll have to go elsewheres. :)

No help here Ken, I know ......

Its going to be hard to find that but there is a lot of places just outside of gso :driver:

Just outside is cool

he just does not want more then 30 mins drive to work

and woudl prefer to be on west side of Gboro

He may want to look at living outside of Guilford County. Randleman, NC is just south of there in Randolph County. Cheaper taxes and a lower crime rate than G'boro. Its less than a 30 minute ride from G'boro.

I live in Kernersville

7 miles from Wendover, 9 from High point road

6 miles from High point

8 miles from 52 in Winston

I've got an acre of land and tons of room between houses.

Also remember Terry Grier, and greensboro schools SUCK!!!!!! if he has kids they'll get bussed for an hour or better wherever they go

Adams farm has nice houses, but kinda crowded, if he is a high roller, tell him to hit up Grandover. BIG houses, very rich. Check out sedgefield also thats about the only thing I can think of that id like to live in, in Greensboro

no high roller....

He said he is just looking for a regular house ( with a GARAGE of course ) that has a little bit of property.

He will do much better to find property just outside of Greensboro, preferably outside of Guilford County. Taxes are much cheaper, and it seems like the property sells for less. For instance, back in 2001, we bought in Forsyth County. We had looked at almost carbon copies of this house in and around Greensboro. They were all on average 20-30K more.

If he insists on living in Greensboro, Adams Farm is not too bad, but they have recently picked up a drug element and have gotten to the point that the homowners association has felt the need to hire an off duty police officer for evenings to patrol all of Adams Farm.

There are some nice houses around Westridge Rd and Jefferson Rd, although, I don't recall seeing any for sale recently. As a blanket statement the further North and West he can get the better. And the farther from High Point Rd the better.

Kernersville is about the best choice since it is so close to everywhere in the triad. Keep in mind in the next few years there will be some urban loops going through Kernersville, and Walkertown that may affect where he wants to live.

sure.. do you have the MLS listing??

If you send him to Adams Farm, have him look REAL close at the windows. I replace windows for a living and have seen some real CRAP for windows in Adams Farm houses that are only a few years old. Most houses in Adams Farm were built cheap and fast, so they cut a lot of corners. I've replaced windows in houses less than 2 years old that had already been replaced under their factory warranty because they used such crappy materials.

housing isn't that expensive even in addams farm. greensboro is a pretty cheap place to live. If I had a choice I would live in kernersville, close to winston and greensboro. But then again I like smaller towns, but don't get me started on greensboro's schools, police force, crime rate, homeless people, and about every other aspect that contributes to an overall sh1tty town. Wow, i'm really negative today.

For sale by owner.....but I can post some pics!

They're friends of ours....if we hadn't remodeled our house a coupla years ago I'd be there (alot like my house but my basement lacks a garage door  )

Randleman is a great area. Cheap taxes and near greensboro. Takes me 25 minutes to get to my work on Summit Ave (east side off 29N just after the split from 40/85) from my home just outside Randleman. I live about 7-10 minutes from the Randleman City limits.

News update, had 2 robberies on High Point Rd today. One of them a bank. Welcome to Greensboro. Glad HPR is in district 2 and I don't have to worry about it all that often.

Puma, what's all this dissatisfaction with the Greensboro Police? Hard to focus on police issues when we are so swamped with babysitting duties and non-police related issues.

When a cop pulls a gun on an 18 year old for moving a traffic cone something is seriously wrong.

Heres the deal, I was at UNCG moving into my dorm on the quad. During move-in the huge open sidewalk is open to cars moving in and stuff. The day after move-in I brought my TV from home and unloaded it from the jeep. As I came to the end of the drive there was a large cone blocking the exit I guess to prevent people from driving onto the drive in front of the quad. (Keep in mind there was no cone at the entrance). Well I didn't know this little driveway was ONLY open for move-in days, no signs no nothing. Well when I get out to move the traffic cone back, a cop car screeches right up to me jumps out pulls his gun and yells "GET BACK IN THE CAR!" OK well wtf? He gave me a ticket for that and I had to go to court, go to alive @ 25, all that jazz and everything else for just driving on campus. I told him I was a freshman, new to the area, was following OTHER cars onto the drive, and saw no signs that suggested otherwise, but that didn't make one bit of difference.

This is only one story of several. I've dealt with W-S police and they are normal, easy to get along with, decent people. GSO cops are pretty much hardcore mall security that were neglected in high school and must show the world "who's in charge".

What dorm was it? Like Bailey on the quad overlooking the tennis courts?

I do believe that was campus police

I basically lived on the UNCGay campus for 5 years in the early 90's at my girlfriends place while I went to school at A&T (the grey house between yum yum's and spring garden bar and grill) and the UNCG campus police were the biggest buncha BARNEY wannabes I've ever seen

Same color scheme, uniforms, and look of the G-boro police which is really wack because it makes you do a triple take to see if you're getting hawked by a real cop, or a glorified mall security prick that couldn't pass the L.E. exam

If it WAS really a G-boro cop...from what I understand he really had no business on the campus

Randolph county is nice. Really close. Also check into Jamestown, basically right next to Greensboro. What he needs to do is set a few days aside and just come drive through some perspective areas and get some ideas, then look at the listings.

So a LEO (GSO or otherwise) "pulls his gun" & gives you a *PARKING*(?) ticket that requires a court visit??? Sounds like the "Rest of the story" may be missing? Like the RPG or crackpipe that fell out when you opened the door? ;)

Not trying to start something Puma, just saying that it sounds entirely fishy that any LEO would pull a weapon and not ferry someone to the pokey...

and even if that was the whole story...it had to be a campus cop and they count as an entire different police department from the police department of the city in which the university is located.

I live in jamestown, nice quite slow town for the most part. There has been quite a few developments that have sprung up. Ride around sometime, itll take you all of 3 min

Warning.....hijack in progress.

Puma, I would lay odds that you dealt with UNCG police. They are fully sworn law enforcement, and for the most part they are good at what they do. Chances of a GPD getting their perverbial panties in a wad over a traffic cone on campus is slim to none....and slim was on break that day.

I agree there is probably more to the story, but that does not matter to me near as much as you lumping an entire city's police department in one catagory because of a less than happy dealing with one officer. That would be like me saying that wheelers are a bunch of disrespecting, redneck, gearheads and I hope that every one of them has to spend the rest of their life in jail, just because I had to arrest one bonehead for being stupid.

This stereotyping goes both ways, as you can see. There are many different ways that I can end this quasi-rant, but they would all come out in a way I did not intend, so I will just end with this.

"Why can't we all just get along?"

Ken,
Im in Stokesdale just off of 68 and 158. 35 minutes from the heart of Greensboro. Rockingham county taxes rock. Dont know much about the schools....No permits needed to burn. Hardware store and auto parts store right in town...two banks and and 3 gas stations. Country living. Ive got a ranch on two acreas.

that is all of the story, he didnt point his gun at me or anything but it came out of the holster. I was not speeding across the driveway or anything like that either. And I don't know if it was a campus cop or not, unmarked white impala, whatever that may be. Richard (sharksanddanger) can vouch for the story.
