We cooked out last night, and I find that my gas grill is on it's last legs.

I'm wanting a nice SS grill setup. I saw the other day that Lowes has them on end of season clearance...who has the best deals now, HD, Lowe's, or _____?? Anything to watch out for with the new grills??

I've got some good deals on closeout grills at my lowe's over on walnut street. I've got the quantum which is the infrared cooktop for 411. I've sold hundreds of them this summer.

One tip, find one with more burners rather than less.
I.E. for the same size grill if a 4 burner and 3 burner models are available get the 4...it will be infinitely more adjustable.

My point is shop around, it a great time to buy, but lowest cost may not be best value.

www.wilmingtongrill.com Not the cheapest, but they last forever.
x2

I would recommend a Holland, but I don't agree with their business practices. And they aren't the only one with the no flare up, the wilmington is built the same way along with a few others.

If you are wanting a decent grill to use for a few years, buy something from one of the box stores. If you want to invest in a good grill that will last, look elsewhere. Broilmaster is a high quality, decently priced grill also.

I can probably score you a deal on one of these:

The wilmingtons and hollands are very similar. I like the wilmingtons better though. You can get them fairly local and are all hand made in Wilmington, NC.

x2 on the Holland. Had it for 9 years now, and it's not even the stainless model. I would get stainless though. I had the top blasted and hi-temp powder coated a few weeks back. like brand new.

Holland was designed by a guy in Holly Springs, but I think now they are made in Atlanta. Corp HQ is still in HS.

I have a hard time believing that even the $2K grills don't suffer from the disintegrating burner syndrome the $400 have...

My grill is almost 14 years old. The plastic handle broke off 5 years ago (mbalbritton & I fabbed a new handle from AL tube), looks like ass (stays IN the weather 24/7/365), and has done a great job. However, I've had to change the burners, grates, deflectors & lava rock out at least every 3 years to keep it working. As it needs some attention NOW, I was thinking about a new one, BUT... can NOT swallow $2K for a replacement

holland has a cast iron burner and I believe a lifetime warranty on it. A bigdog stainless holland is $950 or so. I picked one up for a friend's husband's bday a few weeks ago. Many local ACE hardware stores carry them.

Just checked, yup lifetime warranty on burner.

from their site:
People often ask, 'what makes the Holland Grill different?' The difference is inside. Holland's unique, indirect cooking system gives you moist, juicy food--all without the hassle of flare-ups!

1. Holland's signature smoke stacks help pull air into the grill where it is heated and circulated much like a convection oven. They also allow enough heat to escape to maintain a constant temperature in Holland's hassle-free one-temperature setting.

2. The stainless steel cooking grid will last a lifetime, is easy to clean and its diamond-shaped pattern prevents small food items from falling through.

3. The rust-free aluminum drip pan catches the juices from the food where they sizzle and smoke back up on the food, giving it that distinctive Holland-Grill flavor. There's no charcoal, lava rock, ceramic tiles, etc. to clean. The drip pan slopes slightly to channel all the excess grease down a 3/4" drain pipe and away from the flame.

4. A stainless steel deflector plate spreads the flame out so that you have a relatively even heating pattern.

5. The heart of it all--Holland's cast-iron burner is guaranteed for the life of the grill. No more replacing rusted out burners every year! Now that's hassle-free.

ya know, I had that same warranty on the burners for my Brinkman, until you read the fine print ( which was omitted from the directions on my grill ) I tried to claim that lifetime warranty on the burners, after the third year, they were toast.

seems you have to season them regularly like a cast iron skillet, or they won't honor the warranty.

I spent $400ish on this damn thing because I was tired of replacing burners every year, and being able to find anything but aftermarket crap as repalcements.

Now, after 6ish years, the grate is rusted thru, the heat diffusers are wasted, to get the grill back in shape with the proper parts will cost almost $300

I will be buying a new one soon. maybe I'll look into Holland.

wilmington grill IMO is better than holland and is all stainless. i've seen both of them and like the wilmington much better

I have a holland... well half of one. Its been handed down from my folks to my brother, to me. I was given the bottom half of one when my bro replaced the bottom section of his. When I got it the bottom had some rust holes, and the burner was toast. The heat deflector was still intact. This grill was purchased in 1990, and I fixed it in 06. It was always outside, but covered. The burner crumbled apart when i took it apart, but 16 years on one burner says something.

Gas?

I thought the point was to grill, and your not gonna do that with a gas one.

Say it with me folks....CHARCOAL. :fuck-you:

I love charcoal and keep both grills....

Unfortunately time doesnt often allow time for heating coals etc....

Hell I can gas grill faster than stove cook

But when time allows or weekends etc. Its charcoal all the way.

I do have a small propane grill that I use on weekdays, it cost $40, I store it inside to keep it from rusting, perfect for the after work grilling. But weekends, Charcoal all the way.
