Why is Falls dam closed?

it's to recondition the trail.. ie fill in some mud holes, put up some guard rails, make the tree huggin hippies happy.... that kinda thing

I was told that it was closed for a new camp ground and some work on the trail.

I think I heard a rumor that a Alien Space craft had landed there.:alien:

He was stuck in a creek tangled in some old fishing line and lures which pissed off the trout fisherman and it was all over after that.

yeah, reminds me that while I'm being careful to "Tread Lightly" ...everywhere else across America there are D9 Cats & Scrapers leveling every square inch to build a new subdivision, mega Walmart & super shopping mall. But no one complains 'bout that. no protesters anywhere, just happy campers sleepin on the sidewalk all night for the doors to open...

you ought to see the land raping going on next to me I moved into a wooded hilly subdivision and my next door neighbor cut down all of his trees and is leveling the hills. When I asked him why, he said, "I want to be able to mow the grass" I asked him, "why didn't he move to the suburbs? it would have been cheaper"

fill in mud holes!!! NOOOOO i was looking forward to that trail so much. i've only been twice, both this month, and was told that was the only trail with mud. now where am i going to have to go to find some legal mud to slop around in?

Art Lilley Memorrial

Major hats off to the USFS for this one

is the lexington mud pit still open?

I was in URE w/ a friend a few weeks ago and we went by to see Janet.....
She said that the new campground will be in the area of the first big muddy. I would imagine where the hole is will end up being parking and trailhead ( like it was a long time ago?).
Her take on it was a rough camp....similar to hunt camp for now but upgrades will come as time goes by.

Couple of things about the new camping area. It is intended for use by the ATV crowd, gives them a place to camp with direct access to the trails. So they don't have to tow from camp to trail. It is going to be "primitive" camping. No showers or potties at this time. Ranger Walker is trying to get it named after Art Lilley...I'm not sure this has made it through USFS "headquarters" yet, but she is trying.

This from the man that ownes 2 wheelable Jeeps...yet hasn't been out in 2 years...So, yeah...to extreem for you.

incorrect... too broke financially and time wise to finish....

By my ciphering, it's been 4 years since the CJ saw anything other than a trailer and almost 2.5 years since he dented the doors on the GG! :flipoff2:

In his "defense', it *IS* a long 20minutes drive from his house to URE!

This is located at the top of Falls Dam?

Is the gate at 516 going to be opened for vehicles to access this campground, or will it only be accessible by the trail system?

Yep, 516 will be the access, and yes, the campground is located in one of the fields at the big mudhole at the intersection of Falls Dam and Falls Mountain trails and 516. That area has been called Riverview in the past due to the long stretches of river/lakes you can see from there in winter. Falls Mountain has been closed for several years, but there's always a possibility with enough support and volunteer labor.......

It's my understanding that the name has cleared the hurdles, and that there will be day parking there in addition to the camping.
