Wide Open Design LJ buggy build

Gave it all some thought and went with a new PS pump setup. I wasn't 100% convinced I wouldn't have a flow issue with the relocated inlet. Better safe than sorry I figure.
Went with the Detroit Speed TC pump bracket kit and a PSC CBR TC style pump. It is sized perfectly for my setup.
I'll sell my old ones as perfectly functioning spares for somebody and pick up another spare CBR.
Tonight I get to roll the dice with my dog's minivan. I either have a bad TCC solenoid or a bad converter. Fingers crossed I don't waste more free time working on stuff NOT from WOD.

Explain please? As I'm contemplating the exact same thing for the same reasons... resi won't fit under the hood w/o "hole" and still have good (short/straight/down-bubble) supply run
Sure thing, Holmes. On the back of the P pump, there is a round casting that sits really close to the back of the integral reservoir.

The incoming fluid would.have to flow around the reliefs I ground into the pump and then to the pump inlet. Which is near the bottom of the pump.
I just wasn't convinced that I wouldn't have a fluid starvation issue at higher RPMs or when I'm really off camber.
Both of which I typically am when I'm wheeling.
So I made the change to a CBR and the different bracketry. I'm actually installing the new pump this evening so I'll have some really good pictures to show the difference.

Was it the TCC? 🤞

Yuck, I lucked up a couple weeks ago for a friend and the solenoid fixed it. Atleast they aren’t too bad to pull them.
Not a bad job really. I was a transmission tech at the dealer back in the day. So I'm super familar with 41TE and 62TE van stuff. Had a stuck dowel that wrecked the block plate. But I was able to straighten it out.

Going with the CBR pump was definitely a good move. The Detroit Speed bracket kit fit perfectly and the pump went right on. It kinda mimics the OEM 5.0 Explorer PS pump setup.
I gotta order a shorter belt and I can call it done.
A bonus is the inlet is was lower now and I can drop the remote reservoir even lower under the hood (rollover protection)

when your CBR fails call radial dynamics and get a new pump from them. that is what I had to do on comanche.

Actually accomplished something on the LJ this week. Locating just the right length serp belt was a chore. I cut up an old belt and used it as a guide. Ended up taking 8 different ones until I found a true 65" one. Now we good.

Been trying to find time to go grab some new hydro steering hoses. Fully extended the suspension and got some measurements. Went ahead and had them make a new PS pressure hose too. 3 hoses, 2' of push lock (cooler plumbing) and 2 8an fitting was $400.
This is a stupid hobby.

With the hoses on and a freshly gaped butthole from the hose cost, I was able to verify clearance with the hoses and radiator. This thing is super tight on clearance everywhere. I nailed it with 3/16" to spare.

One big thing I needed to do so.I can do other things was the drivers floor pan around the Atlas and the seat. I have maybe 1/2" between the seat frame.and the top of the transfer case. It was gonna take a ton of small pieces to fill in and still give room for the seat to slide.

Thankfully my 18 gauge welding (skills?) will be covered up in charcoal Raptor Liner 🤓
This week's plan is 2 small patch panels where the cage comes up through the tub behind the seats. Also gonna mount the steering cooler and plumb that line.
Waiting on my body guy to call me and discuss his schedule. It may go him for paint and body work sooner than planned.
