Will a loc rite locker be good for me

What size tires and how hard do you wheel.
On a side note the pins in a LockRight will give and snap sometimes

I just saw your pics and it looks like a lock Right would be okay. Normally you can get by with 33s and be okay. I was fine with 33s and an Aussie and I was rough as hell. never broke an axle.

who too see considering cost and location{near hickory.

I met Brandon from Rides last weekend, and he was cool as hell. Give him a buzz, maybe he can take you for a ride in his buggy too! (wear a helmet!)

No.

Up grade the axle, maybe an 8.8 or d44. Kind of like polishing a turd.

cheap turd polishing

if you want to go ahead with the lock rite, let me know, i have one for sale...........you have a tj? this came out of a yj......so does anyone know if there is a difference? dont want to sell it to ya if it wont work!

thanks

I don't know if you axle will take it....but my buddy has two lock rites in two toyota axles with chrome alloys and 38.5s and he can't break that damn locker...but i dunno bout your axle, i would get the 8.8

It's a matter of time before you blow a d35 with lockright. I've seen a couple break. Tire sizes on those axles: 28s on one, 29s on another, 32s on one, and 31s on another. A couple of those didn't even have a locker. For offroading purposes you need to upgrade that axle.

BTW: The lockright won't be the part that brakes...

i've known several people with lockrites on 33's with a D35 and they did fine. No hard wheeling or wheel hop and you should be ok. Just bring spare shafts to be safe. Upgrade axles when you get a chance. the D35 is really only a big paper weight when it come to anything other than light wheeling.

Considering your "custom user title" I would say no. Mods such as lockers are a slippery slope to more radical wheeling. You will want to use it and if you use it, you will lose it at some point.

Keep it stock with 31" tires and have fun. You can go on most any trails we ride with a little help and watch everyone else break their junk in the comfort of your stock rig!

I have to agree with JC on this one I wheeled about 8 times last year with my jeep being stock and never broke any thing. So I got the bright idea to lift it and put 35's on it over the winter I have tryed wheeling twice since lifting it. The first time I broke the front lower control arm bracket the second time I went well lets just say my jeep is on jack stands in the garage waiting on a 8.8.

If you are planning on doing any wheeling at all don't waste your money on a lockrite for the D35. Just spend the money for 8.8, you can find them with 4.10 limited slip for around $200.

I would love to see the clearance under an 8.8 on 31s. Maybe you could just put an anchor back there, it would cost less, lol. One option that I haven't heard anyone mention is to keep the D35 with your current tire size, leave it open, and put the lockright in your front axle. I've wheeled on a locked D30 with 35s for about a year and a half now with no problems to date. Having a locker in the front may be all the extra traction you need for now, and will certainly open up new possibilities to you. What everyone is telling you though is absolutely right, the D35 is not worth locking, and is really only good for short term use. However, if you keep your Jeep with smaller than a 33" tire and leave it open, you will probably be fine for quite a while. If you ever want to go any bigger, you should really start looking for a swap. There are guys over on jeepforum that claim that the Super35 kit when properly installed will hold up extremely well, but it is simply not an axle that I would want to spend anywhere near that amount of money on. Just my .02

My point isn't so much about the D35 as it is about off road modifications to a DD rig in general re his custom user title, "If I roll it I'm screwed.

A locker in the front will be the same thing as a locker in the rear in this context. It will take him further into trouble, breakage and body damage. Sure it will improve the off road performance of his rig, but just enough to make him want a rear locker too.

Then he will definately be able to go far enough to break something or damage the body......or roll it, and then he's screwed :)

Who said the locker has to be in the rear?

Yep, I have always heard instead of spending the money on anything for a D35, save that money to go towards a better rear axle, like Jeff said
