Will not idle without help

I have an 1989 Cherokee that all of a sudden will not idle without some help with the gas pedel. Motor sounds great and is strong but just as soon as I lift my foot off the pedel it dies. Anyone have any ideas?

Idle Air Control Valve or EGR valve, not sure which that model year had. It is probably sticking closed, which is why it won't idle. Just replace it.

Idle air control will be pricey to replace if it's what is stuck. You could just as easily clean all the crap out of it with some brake parts cleaner.

I've had an EGR valve that brake cleaner wouldn't even put a dent in. Easy-Off oven cleaner is the best stuff for cleaning carbon deposits off if brake cleaner won't do the job. Spray it on, let it sit for a couple hours, wipe it off.

Correct, brake cleaner won't put a dent in carbon build up. Throttle body cleaner is what I would use. I also agree with the IAC. Clean the TB and the ports.
