Will this serpentine setup work?

So I'm working on my s-10 build when I get time. I'm running a '98 5.7 vortec from a 3500 truck. I'm too cheap to buy a serpentine kit so I'm trying to work with what I've got. My issue is that it had air conditioning and I want it gone along with the big bulky bracket that houses the compressor and power steering pump. If this will work then I'll only have to make a new ps pump mount for my psc pump and do some cutting and cleaning of the factory stuff to make it look nice.

So I used a piece of a strap I had laying around as a mock belt. In this picture I have it routed so that everything turns the right way and the factory tensioner works like it should. My question is; do I have enough wrap on the alternator pulley so it won't slip and will the long straight across the top slap or give me any other issues.

your picture is fubar'd. all i can see is the alternator. anything below that is pink

picture comes up fine for me.
You have valid concerns with the amount of wrap on the alternator and the long span between alt. and PS. Could you get an idler on there, looks like there's an open boss maybe 1/3 of the way from the alt. to PS pulley. Maybe raise the PS pump (if you're already fabbing a bracket) to get a larger idler, which would increase wrap on the alt. pulley. It seems like the alternator always needs lots of wrap.
this would get a little more alternator wrap...

just putting this out there, could you use a standard rotation 350 water pump and run the belt underneath the water pump pulley, or would that just move the belt issue from the alternator to the water pump

I dont have all the cool paint skills so I cant draw you a picture, but you should try this:

Crank up to the outside (driver side) of PS pump, around the ps pump, down under the water pump, back up over the alternator. Then alt to tensioner, to crank like you already have it.

Maybe if someone else could draw it up or you could rewrap your strap and take another picture (if you understand what I meant:lol:)

As long as the smooth side of the belt is touching the smooth pulleys and the groove side touches the grooved pulleys then they'll turn the right direction no matter how they're routed.

I tried that one. It all works well but I didn't feel like I had enough wrap on the water pump then. I guess I'm gonna go with what I've got and see how it works.

The water pump doesnt need nearly as much wrap as the alternator, it takes much less power to spin it than the alt does when its charging hard. Especially if you're running an electric fan. The original waterpump needed the extra wrap cause the stock clutch fans can really sap some power and it needed it especially on the smooth side of the belt so it wouldn't slip when the fan clutch was engaged.
