I'm attempting to build a winch bumper for my metals class at App State. I have a basic design, but any helpful hints would be appreciated (especially the best way to attach and line up the new bumper). I'm thinking I can attach it using my old tow hook brackets. PS, the tow hook will stay attach to the bracket, not to the bumper like in my poor drawing.

Cherokees need reinforcement. You be better off taking the mounting plates almost all the way back to where your track bar mount is. You want it this far back since it's a unibody vehicle, and the stresses of winching could damage the body if enough bracing isn't used.

hers sum pics of mine i built a few weeks ago. if it helps any. looks kinda like what your shooting for. was simple and only took about 8 total hours to build. not anything extreme. just wanted some protection and to hold my winch.
