I noticed today that the crimp at the hook on my winch cable (wire) is distorted and a piece has been broken off of crimp.
My cable is still in good shape with no fraying or bad kinks.
What is the corect/best way to reatach the hook.

i ended up using 2 or 3 cable u bolt clamps that u get at lowes. has worked so far

I've had a couple repaired (past 20 years) by I&I Sling in Colfax/S.K'ville. They've got the ferrals & hydro crimper to do it right... without crappy cable clamps or manual crimping :D

here is some good info on the proper way to install cable clamps: http://www.fdlake.com/wrclips.html

And please, PLEASE, NEVER use cheap import clamps. Use good clamps, like the Crosby clamps and DO install them correctly. Keep in mind, cable diameter determines the number of clamps as well as the proper spacing. There is a process to properly installing them. This is VERY important!!! Believe me, I know what happens when they fail because of incorrect installation. Seeing 15k pounds of steel fall 300 feet from a crane was not a good feeling because of a $5 clamp was installed incorrectly!

yeah i repaired mine like the attachment shown probly 3 yrs ago with no issues thus far, but i do occasionally bump the u-bolts with my 3/8 impact just to keep them from working loose.

Jason call me.... I have a used syn rope i will sell ya

This is a molly hogan splice. This + 1 clamp described above unless you can find a fancy crimp like the vid. This is how cable should be looped. Cut the cable with something like an .045 cutoff wheel so its nice and clean before you start

If you use the clamps, just remember to never saddle a dead horse! An easy way to remember to put the saddle of the clamp on the "live" side of the loop and not the u bolt
