Overly long and involved story, but if you have a winch on a lighter 4wd vehicle in Chapel Hill and you can help me for a couple of hours...

Fixed! What a way to make a long day, but the Jeep was recovered from the back yard

Only it did a better job with out that pesky jack and tongue thing to slow it down, so it went all the way down the hill till it met a chain link fence. Chain link is not that good at stopping heavy ass Jeeps, so it sailed through till it found an appropriate tree.

The air force, in their infinite wisdom, decided 1/2 inch channel was a great front bumper. So no deflection in the bumper, but it forced the cab forward and broke the motor mounts, shoving the motor into the radiator.

In my depths of despair, I thought all was lost with my Jeep in a tree with a falling out engine. But then I realized that it is still a Jeep, and it accepts trail fixes well. So I jacked up the motor, shoved it in place with a crow bar, and secured it with a come-a-long.

Then I started it up, drove it back to the hill, and pulled it out with my Excursion. This time I had someone in the Jeep in case the strap broke unexpectedly.

And spent the next several hours repairing the fence I tried to use as a catchers mitt.

a pile of pavers right there and you have no wheel chocks ? :flipoff2:

Glad you got it back !

Our camper tried to escape out the back fence a few weeks ago, really messed up the chain link, good for containing dogs is about all it's good for ( and even then it's subject....)

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Glad you got it pulled out.

Just curious, because you mentioned it was an "air force" jeep, and because of the funky grill/headlights/fenders. Was this thing a military plane tug in a past life?

I got it out luckily... not too much damage over all. Funny about the deuce... I needed a m816 5 ton wrecker to get it off of the trailer when I bought it. Maybe it is cursed.

was the wrecker based out of chapel hill, possibly affiliated with a boy scout troop? I've seen one parked at a church not too far from where i live and i've been trying to figure out who's it is.
