I'm ordering a Ramsey REP 9000 winch. Wondering if I should get a winch mounting plate or if anyone knows of a low cost winch bumper. The winch plate I like is the Tomken one since it has added winch protecting bars (pic - http://www.tomken.com/detail.php?id=179) but is a little pricey any others you would recommend?

1/4 " steel plate, approximately the size of the area between the bumper and the grille, some appropriately rated bolts, a drill, drill bit, and a method of cutting the steel. Maybe a rattle can or two if you want it pretty.

I ran a harbor freight "jeep" winch mount for couple years. $50ish and works just fine...3/16 or 1/4 steel so it is beefy enough, and wraps up on the front and has the place for fairlead.
