4 Wheel Parts is having a sale with the smittybuilt xrc800 and 10000 winches, 299 and 399. What do people think about them? I'm leaning towards the 10k one just for the extra pounds, but may opt to cheap out and get the 8.

are these dependable? what would be the life expectency of one of these?

how heavy is your rig? Mini truck Toy, or fullsize Chevy?
if it's a beast like the latter, 8k may not really cut it, using the standard "2x the weight" rule.
For only $100 more I'd lean for the extra heft.

I bought a XRC8for my Cherokee and love it. You can find them all day long for $299 though, so dont rush in your decision. That's not really a "Sale" price.

I havent had to winch out of anything tough yet, but I do have one decent pull on it and it took it like a champ. No hiccups at all and steadily pulled me up the huge rock.

In hindsight though, I might have went for the 10k winch, just for the ease of mind.

They're good winches.

For what it's worth I have a MM 8000lb winch which is very similar to the XRC8000 and it is capable of pulling a non rolling load of 9995 lbs. I know this because I hooked it up to a Case skid steer and drug it on concrete with it's wheels locked. I have yet to find a situation, except needing fast line speed, that it would not pull me or anyone else out of.
If you are not familiar with winching, the use of a couple of snatch blocks, pulleys, will double your pulling ability in the extreme case you would need it for something over weight.
